the TT in 2015
« on: August 14, 2013, 05:56:19 PM »
Advice needed guys. I'm planning to go to the TT in 2015 as part of my 50th year celebrations. How do I go about booking ferries / places to camp well enough in advance? When do they release race dates? Any other things I should think about?

Any tips gratefully received.
Ta very much

No you're not, but don't leave it long.

There is only one ferry company, a monopoly whicyh means they charge quite a bit.  The Steam Packet Company sails for most of us from Liverpool and Heysham I think it is.  All is online but book asap.

Accommodation wise go through the IoM Tourist people.

Douglas has most on, but is is a big town so the campsites are further out generally.

Have a chat with Beeman if you can, he used to go very frequently.
Note to Self: Shiney side goes UP.

As Richard says you'll need to book the ferry asap.

I haven't been for many years but used to go regularly, I used to use this campsite http://www.glenloughcampsite.com/ but have also camped near the pits which used to become a camping area, don't know if it still does.

Cheers guys, but where do I find out the right dates for 2015?

30th May-12th June

The race week is always the first full week of June.(I believe).

I saw this, you'll be the first to experience it, unless the article was posted on April 1st.

I would be suprised if you could book this far in advance.

It used to be that then ticket office opened for bookings during the previous years TT. If you didn't get a ticket then then you usually had to try for cancellations later on in the year but you had to take whatever sailings you could get. First time I went I had to go a couple of days late and then stay on a couple of days, I haven't been for some years now.

The date on that article is indeed the 1st April.

Hi there

Sorry not had a phone line in for 11 weeks, BT seems to have a problem when I moved 100 yards up road lost order at least twice GRRRRRRRRRR.
Check this web site as schools are off for 2 weeks in 2015. http://www.gov.im/education/holidays.xml
Senior race is always run on the last friday and it is a bank holiday on the island.
You can't book for 2015 until next May. If you don't want to arrive on the race saturday and leave the following saturday tickets are usually ok to get but dont leave it too late, or you will be struggling to get your exact dates.
There is no Mad Sunday now as mountain is one way for the two weeks so no rush to be there on that day.
There are plenty of good campsites and at least one is free, or was. Also many temporary ones on football grounds etc. the main thing I look out for is access from them when the roads are closed.
Richard found somewhere in Douglas very cheap which might be worth trying. Also house lets are another way for cheaper accomadation than hotels.
beeman.
We all get Heavier as we get Older because there is a lot more information in our heads
