my brother has a shogun turbodiesel, he has had it for nearly 10 years now, and it wasnt new when he got it, its clunky and quirky, not faults, but its just, well, agricultural, but for all that, its never ever gone wrong, nothing, in a decade, not a bulb, a battery, not even a fuse. he gets it serviced once a year before he goes on his hols in it, cornwall, scotland, not close by, and it just goes on and on. its getting a bit scabby. not rusty or rotten, just like a car that gets used all the time all over the place. the only time he lifts the bonet is to top up the washer bottle. now ive had landys and the bonnet hinges wear out. dont get me wrong, if my lotto nubers come up i will have another, but thats cos i could afford to run it then! my mates defender 110 has had its head gasket go twice, numerous oil leaks, a duff gearbox, transfer box, plus the charging and injection systems have needed fixing, and the chassis at the back has rotted away. now the old boy over the road from me had a pajero, which is pretty much a tricked up shogun, it was an import from saudi, and is a stock shogun but fully loaded, electric mirrors, windows, sunroof, seats, air con, adjustable everything, its a similar age to my brothers, and again he hasnt had a single solitary thing go wrong in the 4 years he has had it. they arent my cup of tea, but they do seem to go on for absolute ever. neither get much more than 30 to 35mpg, but they do seem to have a good reputation. as an aside, when i had landys, the mechanic at the local land rover garage, the guy charged with fettling all them solihul 4x4s,,,,,,,,,,,, also had a shogun!!!!!
