In memory of a club member
« on: September 19, 2012, 01:21:17 PM »
I will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 14th. I want to raise money in memory of our much-missed club member Bruce Pollard, who bravely endured the awful effects of Motor Neurone disease before passing away at the early age of 59.

Here is a link to my 'just giving' page where you can, if you choose to, make a donation to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

One of the reasons that I took up running is because Bruce's illness made me realise that we sometimes take our health and mobility for granted. His illness arrived without warning and took away the physical capabilities of one of the nicest men I have ever met.

Thanks you to those of you who have made donations, I'm up to 35% of my sponsorship target.

If you're like me you probably thought "that's a good idea" and then forgot about it as the hassles and strains of daily life demanded your full attention. However, there's still time to donate via the excellent 'just giving' website - safe, secure and trustworthy.

It's for a bloody good cause and remember, I'm running the 13 miles so you don't have to  ;)

Cheers, GC

My official Half Marathon time is in:
Graham Carrick 1:49:43
3843rd out of 13,770 starters. Mind you, over 100 didn't make it all the way round.
I'm very pleased to be bang on my target time, but even more chuffed because I stopped for over a minute on a pee stop half way round. Er... not chuffed I had a pee... just chuffed because it means my time was even better.
Because I started in the wrong time pen I spent the entire race passing people. It was only after 12 miles that it thinned out and I was running with equally paced runners. I may have been quicker without that hassle, but why worry now?
Best banner en route? A group of students had made a banner saying "Worst parade ever" :-)

Thanks for all your support, we're on our way to raising £500 for the MNDA. There's still time to donate in Bruce's name: www.justgiving.com/onepot

Well done, Graham.  Glad to see you made it round, and it's brilliant that you hit your target time.

I see that donations are now at 155% of target - great stuff!

Congratulations Graham, well done.

I'm sure I could have thought up a few banners.

I set the online target too low really, only £200. I've also got lots of sponsorship in hard cash form. I will collect it all in over the next few days and report back on the amount raised.
