Oops... or "How the f&^k did he save that one?"
« on: July 30, 2012, 08:44:23 PM »
Lucky escape today travelling back to Dun Loaghaire:

Doing 60mph on the N2 in the Republic, when suddenly came across this laid in the road:

To give you some idea how big a mofo it was, here it is with my size 10 boot:

And this is what it did:

Holy sh!it - that was a lucky escape!!!!

Recovered home by a biker who should have been out playing on his K1600GT which he picked up yesterday - thanks, Peter!

Still on your wheel after the shock ? Great job.

No ! I thought of mending the big tube on the road ::) ;)

Some people mended wheels but I don't think nowadays you can find someone to accept to mend that security part.

Try Hagon.
They have repaired cast wheels in the past.
Worth a try....got to be cheaper than a new wheel.

tyre looks a bit cracked on the sidewall anyhow, so perhaps best to swap it as well.

Holy crap Trevor. Definitely a lucky escape! I once came round a bend, and hit a metal step that had fallen off a lorry cab. It put me over a hedge, and i was supposed to be going to the TT early the next day!

Thanks, Ian

I've yet to hear if that's the only damage - the dealer is having a look to see if there's anything else.

The lump also knocked one of the panniers off and ruined the lock, plus I nearly lost a shoe!

Wow Trev, glad you survived that.
I would also check the lugs at the bottom of the forks that hold the front wheel spinddle as I saw on one of the other sites a picture of a BM where the lug had compietely come off, ie it had fractured! :o
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

Well done for keeping it together after that one Trev!

How much did you win on the lottery? Well after a lucky escape like that i'd be buying a few tickets....  ;)

Worse I can remember having on the road was the road itself! Some dozy git thought putting the resurfaced road signs halfway in the hedge on a tight left hander would allow you to see them clearly. They'd only got round to taking the surface layer off and my little RGV didn't like the rutts very much and drove me through the hedge on the opposite side of the road! Just very lucky nothing else was coming the other way!!  :o

My son hit a concrete fence post some twunt had carefully placed in the road. No, he didn't manage to stay upright!
