Practical Sportsbikes seeking SZR660

Hello,

Apologies for barging straight in to the forum with a request - but I'm going to do it anyway  .
My name is Chris Newbigging, and I'm Features Editor on Practical Sportsbikes magazine. We're looking to test a Bimota BB1 and a Gilera Saturno against a Yamaha SZR660 for the next issue. Unbelievably, finding the first two hasn't been too much bother, but an SZR is eluding us.

I'm hoping to find an owner who can lend us a tidy, mostly standard bike for a couple of days so we can put the feature together. We'd collect/return the bike ourselves, fuel it, insure it and as an added bonus, we're fitting new tyres to all three bikes FOC. So it'll come back on new rubber too. It needs to be taxed and MoT'd, obviously.

Good to see you Chris, I'm sure you've come to the right place... but why an SZR.... surely an SRX6 would make for a better comparison... or why not all 4... anyway... i'll look forward to the artical... thumpers are definitely on a rising curve... we're just ahead of the game here at TC... (sorry I don't have an SZR... but I do have an SRX  )

The SRX will come another time - this time we're looking at the 90s breed of faired singles. Don't worry, we're lining up a story on an SRX for the future

I think Steve H has got "a good (more than tidy) one".... I`m sure he will correct me if Im wrong though

Surely the SZR has to count as one of the most underrated singles of all time? Goes great and handles like a flipping GP bike (admittedly an 80s GP bike  )

And at one time you could get 'em for as little as £800

The write up is in this months magazine ( April) and they're made a rather good job of it.  The conclusion is that the Gilera was best overall, the SZR the best 'budget' buy- their main down marker was the styling rather than the overall performance and the Bimoto Supermono.....didn't fair well.  A good read if you get the chance. Any chance of the XBR/SRX/ something else shootout?
