Hi Guys,

thanks for all the help! the down pipes are in pretty good condition but the silencer is not good, patchs have been welded on to it and there was an inch hole in it aswell, for the time being ive just repaired it as best i can, but will need replacing soon i think. not too keen on spending £300 on the exhaust as i only paid 200 for the bike. but i will look at the options.

as for the front brakes the pads look good so Andy you was right! Thanks for the website there SteveC thats going to be very helpfull.

also going to try and replace the head gasket to try and stop the oil leaking.
weathers been holding me back for the last two days, cant wait to get back at it!

Hi mate

Is it MOT'd??

If not, I'd do that before doing the head gasket...

You can run it for the interim anyway.  And it may not be the head gasket, remember!

1) Cracked rocker cover?
2) leaks from the studs?
3) Any oil lines up there??

I don't know the XBR at all, but try to do one thing at a time.  Brakes is a good start.  Remember if you need tyres they are not cheap.  Silencer by the sound of it??  Leaky fork seals??

You must thing I am a right moany bastard!!  I'm not, just saying that if there is expense to come, spend it on things to get you mobile.  Remember, as soon as you start stripping the motor, you can no longer use the bike, no matter what state the brakes or silencer is in!!

Cheers!  Good luck!

Yup, I see what you mean Andy.

Liam, it might be worth checking the rear brake out as soon as you can. XBR rear wheels rot from the inside causing the hubs to go oval. This causes 'pulsing' when you're braking, which is an MOT fail. The only solution is a new wheel I think. There is some info on this forum about replacing or repairing XBR hubs but I don't know the ins and outs of it. With a bit of luck they'll just need a good clean and new brake shoes.

Regards,
Dave
