Dragon piccies
« on: February 13, 2011, 05:38:25 PM »
Back home safe and well, sitting with a cup of tea in a new Dragon Rally mug, thinking back on a great weekend. One of the best things about the rally is seeing old [and sometimes quirky] machines being used as they were intended. To transport the owner, and whatever he needed carried, to where ever he needed to go, even if that's a muddy field in North Wales.

Anywho, here's some piccies of things that caught my eye.

Great to see everyone and I hope you're all home safe too. Cheers guys.

Well I got home after a deeply uncomfortable ride. I think I've picked up a stomach bug (or food poisoning) and I'm looking to an early night.

What a blinding long weekend. I stayed in Rhayader on the Thursday night, Llanberis on friday and the rally on Saturday. I will leave Steve D to describe the fantastic night at the Snowdon Inn. Simon M can fill you in on our thursday curry after his unplanned 'off'.

I'm off to bed to quietly die.

Good to see everyone as always.

Had a nice run through Wales which unfortunately has to be followed by the M-62. Freezing rain and high winds over Saddleworth Moor. Still, made it in time for lunch and the Rugby. Think I've picked up a bug too. I was putting it down to cooking while ****ed  :-[

If not the longest trip back from the Dragon then unquestionably the slowest. Keith's freshly tuned 125 Lambretta pulled a whopping 40 on the flat and decidedly less up any hill. I counted everyone of them on the way out and on the way back-but with filthy headache the wet riders had a hoot nonetheless.

Friday night saw much cooking over an open fire, although any bushcrafters or health and safety types would have been disturbed by some of the methods used - not by me I hasten to add. I was relieved fire duty for the evening so was able to concentrate on drinking and staying out of the rain. Same again next year? I was thinking of a beach party.....

The Dragon was yet another good-un and I can thoroughly recommend wool layers in wet conditions dries beautifully over night. Good to see you all again

My first thoughts in the morning were that I had a monster hangover courtesy of that 8.5 beer that Rob insisted on buying. However, on my ride to the Cafe at Llanidloes (about one and a half hours) I started getting stomach cramps and it became apparent that whilst, yes, I did have a hangover, there was something else going on too. A subsequent visit to the facilities at the cafe proved beyond doubt that the normally impervious Carrick stomach was in crisis. The fact that I had to stop again half an hour later in Rhayader confirmed this fact... quite convincingly.

The worrying thing is that Gareth's partner Liz was in a worse state than me (although she was throwing up rather than 'the other') and she was a trooper to ride back yesterday.

A very early night and some Florentine care from my wife seems to have worked a little and I'm sat here debating whether to go to work or not. I haven't heard from Gareth, but I'd be amazed if Liz goes to work today.

Still, it was a great weekend. I was really sorry to have missed Bruce though, I would have liked to say hello.

Sorry I didn't bump into more people, but we blew the game plan by getting too drunk at the pub  ::)

Cheers

An enjoyable weekend was had and some exploits to be remembered.

Again too many friends to be able to say hello to them all and have a drink with but it was great to walk around and take it all in.

My recent adventure got me prepared well for this event enabling me to be the centre of attraction in my corner of the field. ;D

Altes Elefantentreffen anybody?

Mark

ps. had a slower ride back than Steffan, Ifors Norton down to 20mph in places.

I wouldn't bet on that - hey what about a speed trial, Ivor vs Keith?

Hi, All

Well, definitely one of my best ever,  After a somewhat delayed start, Rob was not as his best,
the XBR was definitely sulky, we finally made it to the Church Hill House on Friday, Bettws
was great, a good welcome from Julie (Landlady) and then Oz and Cliff turned up. Some Ale
consumed, Rob reckons about 8 pints of Speckled Hen plus some malt whiskies to settle us for
the night. Gentle start on Saturday and a run up the A5 to fill up with petrol, none in Bettws
this year, followed by a steady ride to Control and so up to the site. On approach it looked
really wet and muddy so I left the bike at the Copper Mine and walked in to investigate. I was
spotted as I walked in and called over to the patch selected, no mud here, good camping, so
thanks to Jules and others who would not let me quit and go home, I was persuaded to bring the
bike down and pitch, it must be a stage I am going through. The rest is history, fancy swapping
from beer to spirits at 2:30 in the afternoon feeling it must be time for bed by 4:30pm.
Talking Bollocks ended about 11:00pm and so to a warm dry sleep, rain lashing down outside but
who cares. 7:00am and awake because the rain has stopped, a coffee and fruisly bar and start
packing for a very wet cold miserable ride home, just as a Dragon should end. Thanks guys for a
great weekend, I really enjoyed being with you all. I guess I am lucky, I did not catch Rob
Gunstone's lurgy although some claimed to have.

Furry
Here I go again!!
