Scars

This afternoon I had one of the pointless little "offs" that occur from time to time. No worries, hit a patch of gravel in a car park, half stopped the zed going over didn't make it and ended up stepping off. No damage to the bike just an oddly cut knee and bashed elbow, all on the right which is weird as the bike went to the left. 

Anyhoo, drowning my (minor) pain in fizz, white wine and now cheap white wine (it's Karen Birthday weekend, we are watching the tennis), I got to thinking about the various bashings bikes have resulted in since last century. I think I've done OK. I have one decent scar below the left knee where I tried to damage the bumper on a Volvo and one below my eye where a huge wasp got me in Norway-ish.

So, at the risk of Jethro posting photographs (  ), is this a good effort, normal or poor? Are we going all Prussian and thinking such scars are good, or is the aim to preserve our good looks?

Over to the group before I try the port and add a hangover to the aches

Aye Andy,

Pleased you don't think it serious.

Only ever had internal soft tissue damage (torn tendons etc) so no scars to date! I intend to keep it that way!

Hope you mend quick and yur heid kens which wey is up in the morning!

Oh dear, battle scars to date

Head-on crash with an Astra on a corner due to road surface (water board failed to repair road) resulted in two pulled thumbs ricked out of joint, heavily bruised left hand, twisted neck and crushed undercarriage   The CBR400R was in worse nick than me though. Although I wasn't at fault following police report, insurance company wasn't interested in assisting.

Next crash at 15mph in a school playground 3 months later resulted in snapped collar bone leaving fragments trying to exit through skin surface. Bone has healed shorter due to overlap resulting in occasional pains in shoulder ever since. Sorry to say this one was my fault and have learned from it.

When I was building my CBR600 streetfighter, the frame slipped and split my finger open so bits were hanging out! Yuck. The triage nurse was very nice as she tucked the stuff back in and wrapped it up. It was rather distressing that a bike I hadn't even ridden had drawn blood!

Definitely not Prussian, as I don't flash my damage.

Lots of little scars mar the otherwise pristine and impressive Carrick figure, but one (incurred in a nasty little sidecar accident) is worse than all the rest. It's a four inch scar on my shin and the scar tissue is pretty weak, When I get tired and run down it sometimes gets itchy and, when scratched, the skin breaks. I had a nice little insurance payout for that scar (and a head injury), but in retrospect a few grand seems a bit poor given the grief it causes me.

Whoohoo crashes and scars...chicks dig 'em (scars, not crashes). I think I'm up to 11 crashes to date, in my 13 1/2 years on the road. Less than half have resulted in an ambulance though. I found the photos last night from the most painful; back in July '99 I was riding my mums NC24 and a car pulled out of a junction, this resulted in the bike being shortened, and I ended up with black balls and wang, painful enough to stop me from walking for a week.
I won't post them, as they aren't pretty. Long term from that one was a small scar on my wang.
I've got a scar on my left wrist from putting my DR600 'moto into a ditch at 60mph. My wrist was pretty smashed up and required pinning and wiring and the scar is from the cut for the operation.

I got a couple from that one too.
And a small amount of nerve damage to go with the scar on my wrist.
And I agree the amount of money does not make up for the pain and discomfort I still suffer.Especially in cold damp weather when my wrist gives me shit loads.

Just to clarify, for those who don't know the story, Jethro was the rider in the sidecar accident I had. I had little idea that the task of adding ballast to his outfit would entail headbutting a car at 30 mph... with no helmet on

I've got a scar on my side about the size of a coaster from landing on the kerb and a scar on my ankle after they pinned it back together. Enough to show the kids..

I'll try and get the pics of my mate who Tbone a car at 60. Broke one leg in a number of places and he now has a leg full of titanium to support his weight. The steel ones buckled.

Many moons ago,I had a BSA Spitfire,with the beautiful glassfibre tank.I had an argument with a coal lorry,resulting in the tank shattering.I don't know if it was the broken tank,or the crazy central bolt that held it on,that caused the damage as I shot over the handlebars,but I have a rather delicately placed scar as a result.Not suitable to post on a family forum.......

Sorry it took a while - I had to check he was okay we me sticking them up.

Notice his right foot is bent out of line - its still like it 3 years later,
He broke the right in a number of places.
The left thigh was smashed - he now has a leg of metal which had to be specially produced to fit his leg. Sometimes the screws pop out and give him lumps under the skin.
Spent a month in that bed and two years of ops.

Poor lad.

Mind you it's always good to wake up in hospital after a bad accident, it beats the alternative every time.

Thats true.

When I got the call I gagged a little because I thought his wife was gonna tell me he was dead.

Makes me well up a little just thinking about it.
