After welding metal gets hot and leaves blisters if you are stupid enough to pick it up.

I'd add that if you are knocking very hot welding slag off welds, it really is best to wear goggles. DAMHIKIJKOK

......and for those into Aromatherapy, if you get a bad burn from such things as picking up recently welded metal, Lavendar oil is the way to go. How do I know, because I had done some welding for my brother and he accidently touched a hot weld, didn't say anything but rushed to his van and put an opened small bottle onto the area. He had just completed a course in Aromatherapy and I couldn't believe that the finger didn't blister. Won't help you now Steve, but might help to have some for future accidents. :o
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

The wonderful bubbling fizz as you pick up hot metal.

Anti splutter makes pretty good penetrating oil.

Lab crucibles that you have just melted iron in are hot and should not be picked up with bare hands.

Lighting workshop furnaces by leaning over the top when they have been filled with gas/air makes a big bang and a mess of your jumper.

Do not believe old duffers who have been bashing metal for years that the two small bits of steel you are holding will not get too hot whilst he is gas welding them.  Then  realise that he was telling  a truth when he accidentally drills a 1/8" hole trough the callus on is thumb...

Why is it that if you drop a soldering iron , you always catch it by the hot bit?

Bike exhausts that fall off get hot too.

And take a lovely handprint if they are black painted.
