Edinburgh: FREE BIKE PARKING BAYS about to disappear???
« on: February 10, 2010, 09:31:17 PM »
OI oi!

In Edinburgh at the mo, there are about 150 FREE parking spaces for bikes, there always have been. Due to trams, wheelie bins, Car Club spaces, permit zones, bus lanes...the cooncil is trying to keep the punters happy (i.e. sell more car parking permits??).

They are putting a T.R.O. through in double time to remove ALL BIKE SPACES!! You have until 5th March to object, so please do!!

Link to info on Embra MAG site:

(I'm sure BMF will be doing the same)

Please tell anyone you know, and spread to other forums. Managers, hope this is ok to post.

Peth council (Western OZ) tried to impose parking meters based on a state levy charge. The scooteristas and the motorcyle lobby hit hard on the green thingy saying bikes and scoots should be encouraged... lo and behold it was reversed, except for a couple of bays. We are an enlightened mob hey?

PWe are an enlightened mob hey?

We were talking about oxymorons the other day... 'enlightened mob'?

"WHAT DO WE WANT?
We're actually working out some feelings of dis-empowerment and we are seeking an unrealistic but conscience-salving goal
WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
We're working ourselves into an indignant rage and we are demanding immediate action although we understand that the apparatus of a democratic state makes this impossible and, in some senses, unwelcome"

Ooooh they're a scary bunch the enlightened mob ;) :D :D :D

Cheers
GC

p.s. I'm just riffing on a theme kurt, no offence intended

LOL, I have little idea myself...

If there's one thing I learned from my brief time in an office job it's how to string together some fancy words into a barely comprehensible sentence.

Ooops! Just checked on Council website: objections to be in by 2nd March (not 5th!). Mistake on local MAG site I think.
