Bob Mac Memorial, June 2010
« on: January 16, 2010, 10:37:56 PM »
That reminds me(!)
One for your diaries for later in the year... 19-20 June the Bob Macintyre Memorial classic road races at East Fortune (an old airfield in East Lothian).

Absolutely fabulous weekend of classic racing bikes, you all owe it to your ears to visit at least once!
Certainly last year there was camping allowed inside the circuit, so it's likely that will be possible again this year, and some of you know friends with parking up this end of the world  ;)

If you think you might like a weekend of proper old fashioned racing with proper old fashioned ear bleeding lung shaking bikes being hammered they way they were built to be then this is for you...  8)

So... who fancies it?

Bet you couldn't  ;) the clip doesn't do it justice, it is a bumpy flat circuit and the clip was taken handheld using too much zoom on a camera where "video" capture is a dodgy add on...

Have a google for it and you should find more interesting stuff  8)

Do you mean the red one with "Typhoon 500" on the sidepanel or the black one just at the end of the clip?  ;)
Dunno... but I know the red one had an open megaphone fitted  :o

When I saw it first I had down as a G45, but on second look it is a Japanese Thumper of some sort with a fancy tank, maybe SR, dunno otherwise, certainly not a Matchless of the era which used that badge.

Its got a primary chaincase and the spark plug is on the left, so makes me think of a big single brit lump.
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

Aye GC,

First query, reply is likely to be a Matchy G80TCS 600 sleeved down with Matchy G50 bits and Commando other bits. This web site might be more to your liking as an interpretation of the theme. TYPHOON CAFE

The other Matchy, parked up, in black, at the back of the shot, is I believe a G45 500 twin. I have an idea who originaly owned it and it is paraded and raced in oily rag finish.

Second query, steering lock? What's wrong with it? It's a race machine! ::)

As for the frantically pedalling XV rider  :-*;)

Toodle pip, Bill.

Quite right, but still quite funny. Mind you my Ikuzawa would have needed a three point turn in that space  :D

Cheers for the heads up on the Typhoon thingy.

Aye GC,

No worries, with a wee Duke it's easier to pick it up than shunt, sometimes. The paddock can be tight!

Whilst I would stop short of using the word "silencer" I'd say it's got more than just a downpipe...

So it would appear to be a Matchless G80 typhoon motor, but what on earth is that chassis? Look how far apart the front downtubes are.
