Heater needed
« on: December 29, 2009, 06:57:15 PM »
I was contemplating making my own food dehydrator and I've got all the bits needed to make a (very) small cabinet, but I haven't got a heater. I thought one of those car 12v ceramic blower heaters might be suitable. Anyone got one they want to sell on cheap?

Also, what do I need to do to step down 240v mains current to 12Vdc, would one of those little plug-in transformers work (excuse my woeful ignorance of all things electrical).

Or go onto the Westfalia website and buy one.  I use one, bloody great for Jerky.  Mr Edwards currently has custody and is doing something nice to some Venison.

Also does fruit leather, but overheats fish.

No reason you couldn't knock up a perfectly effective home made one, it looks pretty basic.

Woohoo!  :D :) :) :)

To be fair I should at least pay your postage. I'll send my address via a PM.

Cheers John, very much appreciated. And a very happy new year to you too... who knows which bit of the world you'll be in this time next year eh?  ;)

In an ideal world I would, but it's tax time soon and funds are short.

You can successfully use a light bulb to heat the thing.

I have a wonderful book on preserving and how to tur your garden shed into a bacon curer...
