At that price !

If I recall correctly Imperial Russian Stout used to claim to be the strongest.  How do they get beer to that alcohol level without the yeast dying ?  Do they just pour vodka into it ?

Aye Richard,

"This beer is about pushing the boundaries, it is about taking innovation in beer to a whole new level."

Perhaps the old kitchen trick of bubbling 'Town gas' through it afore quaffing! ::)

A bottle of Marston's Brown at 2.8% goes down very nice.  :)

Sliante, Bill.

If someone buys it, I will be happy with just the cap as I suspect the smell alone will intoxicate me...!

I wouldn't expect too much, the percentage arms race that seems to be going on between real ale breweries just seems to make brown sludge that tastes like burnt toast. The strongest I'd drink again was a dark wheat beer from Heidelburg at 15%.

Strong beer tends to need maturing for a number of years, and agreeing with Andy, sometimes many centuries should pass before the top is taken off.

Thomas Hardy Ale is a fine example, an OK beer when new, keep it for a number of years and it just gets better in the bottle

If there is a reason for the alcohol content then fine - some of the stronger beers have a distinctive character that is delivered by the process of getting to the alcohol content, but one has to wonder at very high strength beers as to whether they are either a marketing ploy (as this one is) or just seeking the boys with little willies who want to look like they have big ones.

Just reminded me of my student days in sheffield when we would go to the Frog & Parrot for a few glasses of 'Rodger & out' then britains strongest beer at 16.5% brewed on site, not sure if it still is?? you could see the brewery in the cellar through a plate glass window in the floor which was a bit disconcerting after a few, oh & you used to get a certificate after two glasses if you were brave enough! & at a pound a shot it sure was a cheap way to kick off the evening!!

Oh dear, where does that leave me as I was going to be satisfied with the cap?  :o

I am best happy with beer that is not too strong as I like to drink it for the enjoyment rather than the intoxicating effect.

Exactly! ;D A good hoppy bitter at about 3% does fine. If you add a good home brewed ginger beer in to make a proper shandy then that just takes the biscuit. Couple o' banty eggs if its a touch cloudy, tasty! ;D I think I'll have a Shepherd Neame tonight with the gammon, stir fry veg and noodles.

All the best and see how the Welsh and Ozzies get on at the millenium, Bill.

My local Sainsburies is stocking a very nice real Ginger Beer now - Crabbies - at 4%.  For me its up there with mulled ale and ginger beer shandy in the winter months.  I like a winter ale mixed with Ginger Beer but this is done properly.  Ignore the rubbish on the label about "chilled over ice with a lslice of lemon"! and drink as beer.

Real Beer (not real Lager) should never be cold.

Just checked the Brewdog website and they have sold out of 'Tactical Nuclear Penguin', but another batch will be bottled soon. Mind you at £35 a bottle...  :o

Crabbies was introduced to me by my brother in law after a day on the ale, just as you can't drink anymore he comes back from the bar with a couple of these, great, easy drinking and you can stay out for a couple more hours. Better than turning to alcopops.

As for strong beers anyone tried 'La Chouffe', Belgian beer of 8%, now thats an enjoyable 1/2 pint brew.
