GB500 quandry
« on: October 01, 2009, 10:21:39 PM »
I've got a complete GB500 here with freshly painted tank and panels and spoked wheels. I haven't got the time to put it all back together to MOT standard because I don't really have any spare time. I think £500 is a fair price for it 'as is', but complete they are fetching mad money.

What to do?

As it stands the bike is complete but the wheels are off and the tricky little alloy indicators need some work to make a good complete set. The wheels need new wheel bearings. The steering bearings are shot, but I have a new set waiting to go in. God knows what tyres I've got here, but they won't be legal.

Am i daft to turn my back on doubling my money?

But when you talk about doubling your money are you including the cost of your time, a new(er) pair of tyres, the mot, the tax, all the little "extras" that will consume time and money during the build...
It hurts I know, but I think you've answered your own question with the first part of my selective quote  :-\
Sorry!  :(

Yeah, I know, it's a shame, but you're right.

Anyone want a GB? It's a dual saddle one, not the humped-saddle single seat version.

I'll post some pics this weekend.

Think about this Graham , Some folk are asking £2000:00 + for these in the classifieds so even with a modicum of building this is about £1500 surely?

The more you get the more you have to spend on a replacement.

There won't be a replacement, there will be a cheque made out to the inland revenue  :(

Stick it on Fleabay and let 'em bid for it! You seen how much bevel Duke twins are making these days, even basket cases. :o :o :o :o :o :o

Recession, What Recession??????????????????????????????????????

If you need the dosh, MAX it! Rare, unobtainium, lucrative rebuild, you know the stuff the advertising agencies come up with! Adjectives, adjectives. No verbs it'll put 'em off and you'll have less for HMRC.

Toodle pip, Bill.

Quite right, I have decided to get it onto its wheels but no more. So the list of tasks is:
Fit steering head bearings
Fit wheel bearings and refurbish spoked wheels, then fit 'em (complete with cheap Mitas tyres off my outfit)
Touch up frame where sidecar clamps have worn the paint
Replace my Tommaselli adjustable clip-ons with standard XBR bars
Fit an XBR left hand footrest hanger to make it a true two-seater.
Fit an XBR front guard to the nicely polished forks I fitted in place of the leading links I've taken off
Fit cheapie aftermarket indicators (and give the purchaser the box of various standard alloy ones)
Get the brakes sorted

At this stage it will be close to MOT standard and so I'll offer it for sale as an easy fix-up.

Thanks for the feedback guys
