So.... What's the Flavour then?

Thumper Club.
I stumbled on here a few weeks ago when I realiused I was looking for a certain type of bike. It looks like there is a kind of "Core" of people that are here pretty regularly and it looks like it might be good for info' and ideas for me, might even put some back in ???
What about the "Club" part of things?
Is it a "Card Carrying Club" or just a bunch of people that talk together and occasionally meet up for a brew?
I read through some posts and have to admit that I got more confused. There's talk of a Newsletter and I have no idea who to bribe to get hold of it. I'd appreciate a bit of a Heads up on the subject.

as an aside, there's talk of a Dent meeting. Is that the dent near Ingleton and is there camping for a fat bloke that might just roll up on short notice?

You might not get many replies to this quote, or you will get loads.

I am in the same position as you on this, being a newbie. It is a much discussed subject but with no conclusion as yet...........but them in the know are working on it ???

TC is a riders club. We really don't care what you ride, where you ride it etc, but the obvious areas of interest are single cylinder bikes, older bikes, simple bikes, bikes that are used year round, sidecars, bikes and riders who do their own work and so forth. I'm not sure what a card carrying club is, but I doubt we are one, you certainly won't get anything silly if you turn up on a full dress Harley or something out of the Touratech catalogue when everyone else is on ten year old single, classic, BMW, twin or whatever. If you are looking for wall to wall CBR's and discussion about knee sliders you may get a bit bored with us, but there are members with feet in lots of camps.

The club operates informal-ish get togethers at either agreed locations or events, usually so people can get a few miles in then talk *******s over a cuppa or pint. The informal nature of this means the club has slipped into a bit of an organisational doldrum, it functions perfectly well for those of us who know this at a "lets all go to the Dragon" level, but it is fully understood this is a bit daunting for new people. There are also issues related to public liability. You'll see a big discussion below on how people are working to remedy this, although I doubt that will result in an organisation anything like say the BMW club.

I'd say join in any discussion you like, turn up at any events people post and watch this space for a conclusion to the organisation issue. Don't worry you havn't got a  membership number (unless you gave GC money  ;D).

I haven't got a clue what this club is about to be honest, but it is a bit of a larf ;D I think you have to like single cylinder 4 strokes, but not necessarily ride one. I think the most common link between the members is we all use our bikes and treat them for what they are and not toys for Sundays. That said, no one here would care if that's your thing either.

Don't listen to Andy or the Squirrel, we are all expected to ride and only discuss MuZ Travellers!! OK!!!!

Oh yeah, camp stoves and landies are ok too, but beware of the "tuther siders"

Sounds like I'm in the right sort of place. I have to admit that, again due to the Head injuries, I've lost all of my past ability to do even simple jobs on the bike yet!
Hopefully it'll come back in bits with practice.
Thanks All.

Who you calling a "tuther sider"? MZ's are meant to make nice blue smoke, have enclosed chains and sieze occasionally. Yamaha's in disguise, pah!  ;D

Dogbad, the club does have one or two enduring popular topics. Hope you like chile vodka recipes.

Hmmm, Dragon... overdue another visit to that particular muddy field....  ;D

As to blue smoke, that means your rings have gone  ;) :P took my Traveller out for a few miles today and damn nice it was too, riders club is what this is and everything else just sort of hangs around the sides (including the club bit!)

Think of it as an "e-pub" where the conversation generally wanders around in a fairly amiable way and most of the regulars have similar interests and a relaxed set of attitudes  :)
Quite, quite mad mind you, but generally in the manner which in former years would have been described as "pleasantly eccentric"  ;D

Haven't done a Rally since 1977! When's the Dragon, and where these days, as I might be tempted to borrow the petrol money ;).... (Times 'r hard, we're in a right 'Ole these days!)

I've never done a rally at all. I do like the sound of the Dragon though - I'd have to get a suitable bike first though, or stick trail tyres on the XBR!

It's not that bad really, any bike will get you there, some turn up on C90's! Better off putting your money into decent camping kit. North Wales in mid February can be pretty inhospitable.
