Weekend debrief
« on: June 08, 2009, 06:34:24 PM »
Thought I'd kick this off .
Fairly productive weekend really . Not much thumping though . Saturday saw me take the Xs out for a tentative spin to get petrol . Clutch dragging a bit but otherwise OK .On my return to chez G , set about a reorganisation of the front parlour. In order to facilitate this ,I decided to get some music on . Obviously had a flash back ,as I listened to a selection from Audience,Badfinger , Slade,Curved Air,Sandy Denny,Sweet ,Janis Joplin and Uriah Heep amongst others .
Sunday saw a run out on the Xs to the local cafe at Cowbridge . Fearing rain ,there was a vastly reduced presence from the Harley hoards. I left during a shower and returned to ..............bright sunshine in Cardiff . Inspired by the success on Sat with the parlour , I set about the garage and produced a safer environment as detailed elsewhere. A few beers in the evening rounded off the weekend ,though the Batemans Victory ale may have been a mishtake  ;)

Not a very bikey weekend, but the garage clear-out continues with the sale (via Ebay) of a set of leading link forks and my shorty sidecar chassis (wot I built for the Tauerntreffen). Now I can get my bike out of the garage without having to shift those two items first.

I also did an office clear out this weekend and it was amazing how much damn paperwork this club has generated over the last ten years. Wifey was so happy with the results of the clear-up that she almost waved me off to the pub last night  :D

Fairly quiet weekend myself. Had to pick up my Deauville from the dealers but managed to persuade SWMBO (who'd run me over there) to let me trade it on something new and shiny. More about that next weekend though.

I went to Mid Shropshire Vintage Club Show in Shrewsbury a very wet weekend though I did meet up with  many people I know. Attached is a photo show my Norton in the background and a tractor with a Norton Big 4 engine .

She's got a newer (and higher spec) car than me anyway, plus the last bike we bought (XBR) was (allegedly, given she's yet to ride it) for her, so it's my turn.

Last bike I bought for myself was back in 2001, so I've been restrained!

Saturday I sold my Mastiff  :'( and rode to Edinburgh in the absolutely hammering rain, but it needed to be sold and I'm sure Geoff will have fun with it  :) Also picked up a one *terrabyte* (amazing as I remember Commodore 64's being a lot of memory lol) hard drive at the local PC world so now I can back up some files and clear some space on the laptop memory  :)
Sunday I mainly relaxed in amongst digging out the kitchen and washing and polishing the Traveller, now looking properly shiny again  ;D
The new transport is running well (cheers Steve  :)) and managed a sniff under 58mpg over the last 200 miles of commuting and hacking around so that's good too, also nice to get over 190 miles from a tankful  ;D
Happy days  8)

Mmmmm! Saturday went shopping for bits for Sally on the newly T&T Tour, tyre kicking for maybe a new [4 us] motor, NO! Dinae no go there! Went for a wee spin and got thoroughly dreach in an 'isolated shower'! Made home and put more of my Dad's OO railway stuff on Ebay, then sorted Sally out for the lift. Perth Airshow ??? see other thread.

Sunday, bit of gardening, washing, then stripping the front end off Sally. All came off, nae problem. Colour of fork oil, metallic aluminium grey! :( Not so good. Unable to undo the allen set screw to remove damper rod from either leg! :( Mate turned up with his partner and large working collie, good dog to meet if you get lost. ;) Spent three hours in the workshop geting the craic, drinking tea, chilling and chewing over 'the world'. They cleared off North, we went and had F&C's, whilst watching the 'cool dudes' at the skate park on boards, blades, bikes! 8)

Went and bought a high tensile 22mm bolt, big flat washer and a length of 16mm MS rod today, to make up a tool to hold the guts of the forks still. Let you know how it goes.

Toodle pip, Bill

Friday afternoon picked up the newly shod back wheel for my "other" bike, ready for the trip to France on Friday.  Put new seals in as well (there's a first!), then got the wheel back in the bike and chain adjusted.  Got me gear on ready to give it a test ride and scrub it in.  Stepped out the door and.....

It rained.  >:(

Saturday raining again during the morning, but brightened up in the afternoon, so decided to join my other club (Diversions) on the Rochdale run.  Bungeed the sleeping mat and bag on the SRX and off I went.  Got there about 7:15.  Plenty of beer (Lancaster Bomber was particularly good) and barbie Saturday night.  A run around some of Yorkshire and Lancashire on Sunday, including a visit to the highest pub in Yorkshire.  The SRX suspension is a bit hard on them rough roads.  :( , but a good run all the same.

Started raining again just after the lunch stop, so a very wet ride home, including an impromptu stop to dry out the ignition lead when the little thumper cut out on me.  Soon got going again.  Home by about 5:30, soaking wet.  Much better after a hot bath and a cold beer  :)

Still need to scrub that tyre in before Friday...

Just got back from my Normandy trip, great weather apart from saturday evening/night.

High security at some of the D Day sites(bloody presidents and politicians) couldn't get near them.

Our Mr Brown(stinking of gin according to the young marines he met)) turned up late at Arromanches and held up proceedings, was booed by the Vets, understandably so.

Other than that a really good week with some spectacular experiences.

Can't actually remember the weekend. It's sort of blurred into the other days I spent on the German ale  ;D

No bike activity unless you could the fact they actually have an MZ in the Deutches Museum.

Sounds like you've been visiting somewhere I used to live - Munich. Fantastic city, great location and great beer. Edelsdorf is the best of a very good bunch.

I have in deed. Munich via Heidelburg and Ypres. If I lived in Munich I'd be poor and dead, not necessarily in that order. I don't think you are supposed to live in the Hoffbrau Haus, but it's so tempting  ;D

I think I had a litre of Edelsdorf and did think it was superior, but heck when the standard is Lowenbrau or Hoffbrau, it's like comparing what number comes after the Porsche or Ducati logo, it really shouldn't worry you  ;D
