Photos needed
« on: April 27, 2009, 08:10:41 AM »
I think the forum has killed off the idea of sending in photos for the site. The photo pages rarely get updated these days and this may be because we use the forum to show off images.

This isn't good for casual users of the site who see no real changes between visits.

I'm as guilty of this as anyone, but can I somewhat hypocritically ask for more photos to be sent to Steve? Also, copies of brochures and thumper-related paperwork would be appreciated.

Cheers
GC

Erm... I don't know if it's just me, but when I've tried to upload photo's onto the site recently I get the message "Sorry upload functionality is disabled at the moment"  :-\

The upload functionality stopped working due to a change in the Service providers configuration (made it more secure) I have gone some way to fix it but because nobody was uploading photos Ive lacked the enthusiasm to fix the problem if there is a general consensus it will be used I will fix it.

I have tried quite a few times unsuccesfully and when one has quite a few to upload it is very time consuming so I don't bother. I am currently a member of the XT660.com site and their method is sooooo very easy to upload pics into the reply box.
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

Well, at the risk of lumbering SteveH with more work.....i'd certainly bung up some pics from time to time if the service were available

I'll sort the existing mechanism. Its my own code, it may not be perfect but will work.

I looked at integrating a photo gallery into the forum some time ago. It worked reasonably well but it wasnt possible to move the existing galleries into the same format and retain the information that goes with them also the POTD would no longer work.

I'll look at this again.

Cheers Steve. is there any way the moderators can rip photos from the forum (for instance) and post them into the gallery or is it all done with code? I can't see why a man of your talents can't knock up a little GUI*  ;)

I'll PM you on this rather than bore the rest of the forum users.

The upload functionality now works and can be found here

http://www.thumperclub.com/uploadphoto.php

I have uploaded some photos sent by Graham and it seems to work fairly smoothly, they can be found

http://www.thumperclub.com/photogallery.php?set=currentmembers&group=Members%20Gallery&menu=Photographs&direction=r

I have looked around for a suitable replacement for the photo gallery, but most rely upon PHP "safe mode" being turned off. This configuration is set by the ISP, it was changed some months ago, which triggered a number of problems.
I beleive have found a suitable replacement but the version we need it is still in Beta and has not been released yet. I will keep an eye on it and install itwhen its released.
