I think his daughters did the right thing, it's important to remind riders (and that includes me) that for all the fun of arsing around on the road, it only takes one slip to make it a very bad day indeed.
A few years ago I was belting up to the Northern(ish) club rally in the Peak District and riding like a loon because I was running late (on the sidecar outfit). I came into a bend and saw a few buches of flowers pinned to the fence. As I passed these I also saw a little teddy bear with the word 'Daddy' written across its chest. My throttle hand eased immediately and I rode on at a more sensible pace. That image has stayed with me, with the thought of how my three little 'uns would react to me having an accident.
