He was, like me, living a life full of disaster when I knew him. A bright bloke though and an easy travelling companion, we rode to the '02 Elefant Rally together.

One of his claims to fame arose at an Ixion track day at Cadwell. Ixion had used the track so many times that they had rechristened the corners with the names of the Ixies who had crashed there. In the end they ran out of corners to name. Mike solved the problem by crashing on the access road between the paddock and track  :D

As I've said elsewhere, one of the worst bike buying decisions I made was when I purchased a 400/4 at night. It looked great under street lamps. The following morning I realised it was a rusty bucket of s***e. I was young and didn't know better.

However, it was the purchase of another 400/4 that led to my best haul of added spares. The bloke selling the bike said "It's £100 for the bike or £125 for the bike and all my spares". I mulled it over and agreed to pay £125. It took three car trips to get all the spares back to my garage.
