BSM exhausts?
« on: January 11, 2009, 10:05:56 PM »
are they actually any good in a fairly high spec motor or really only any good for near stocker? I have purchased another SRX620 and dont really want to mess about if its going to restrict it as it does sound a bit too quiet to me, not ridden it yet as sorting some stuff out. Specs are wiseco 620, Bob Farham flowed big valve head, twin CR's, megacycle cam, carillo rod, so should be a little bit of fun as a road bike.

The system consists of there major bits,
1 - Down pipes
2 - Large collector/silencer under the engine.
3 - Short End can

They do a BS stamped can which as you would expect is a bit restrictve, and non-BS stamped cans which you can fit a dB killer too. Its fairly crips without the dB killer.
Fairly well made apart from the header pipe/head joint which seems a bit feeble but hasnt caused me any problems to date.
My engine has always been in a fairly mild state of tune so cant really comment on how it will work with your engine.

Cheers Steve the bike i have has actually got what looks/sounds like a legal system, and without even riding it i can imagine it strangling the motor. I dont really want an asthmatic system so looks like I will be looking for an alternative setup unless it actually performs that is.

Ive seen a few neat systems that use the original box, they cut out the chambers from teh rear section and replace it with an absorbtion type silencer made from exhaust padding and a perforated tube welded into the end.
I modified mine by welding a steel supertrapp to it, looked quite good, but didnt work particularly well.

I had sort of thought about hacking the system up as I have lots of cans and pipe bends laying about which i could graft on. I will have a look when i get the chance as got a few probs to sort, namely my 640 Rotax is sounding a bit sick and i need to get my Duc up and ready to sell and 2 of my other bikes MOT's need doing.
