XBR cam chain replacement.

The cam chain on my XBRs current engine sounds like its on its knees after 70,000+ miles so a replacement is needed. I see that Wemoto do a DID chain with soft link for just over £50 and wondered if anyone had tried one? I`m trying to work to a budget as the bikes done 150,000+ miles and is realistically getting to the end of its life If anyones had a bad experience then I`m happy to do an engine strip. Thanks, Guy.

The soft link option used to be the method of choice for dispatchers I seem to remember... much less time off the road, and if it worked for their riding style... 

My XBR motor is close to 160,000 miles now and like you I am beginning to doubt that it's worth spending further serious money on it. You have to hear the tappet clatter to believe it.

Being a single this may be easier, on most twins and fours the camchain runs in the centre and hence cannot be replaced easier without splitting the chain or removing the crank.
On a single ir sits on the side of the engine. The SRX chain can be replaced by removing the alternator from the flywheel, the rocker box and chamshaft, in theory the engine could stay in the frame. The XBR may be different, but worth looking into.

Thanks folks. It does appear that I`ll be able to do the job with the engine still in the frame. Will head into the FREEZING garage tomorrow to confirm Already removed the cam cover and the bearing surfaces appear to be perfect Bit of wear on the rocker face but nothing serious. Blimey, that didn`t take long . Pretty worn cam chain though guides fine. As this motor has done 70,000+ miles internally its in great shape. Virtually no debris on the mesh filter that hasn`t been checked for as long as I can remember New clutch plates and I reckon she`s good for 100,000+ Cheers and thanks for the tips. Guy.
