Weekend Debrief
« on: September 22, 2008, 07:29:16 AM »
Well, for once I had a really bike orientated weekend. Sat AM I had business to attend to in Carmarthen which necessitated a 40mile run on the Bullet. On return it was a short wait for the arrival of Mr Keenan with a trailer and Landy full of bits (I can no longer move comfortably around the shed - again ;D) The Keith arrived on his W650 and after some spag bowl we headed off to collect the indominable Mr Marshall on our way to Llanddewi Brefi for a pleasant evening (apart from one local's near death by chilli pepper and a bit of backround banjo music) Sunday was a cooked breakfast followed by departures. Spend the PM fiddling with new toys and mowing the lawn.

With my Ireland trip starting on Thurs, Sept is becoming the new Summer.  ;)

So what did you chaps get up to then?

Saturday was my birthday and as a special treat Dawn and I got our glad-rags on and went to see the Royal Philharmonic (and Julian Lloyd Webber) perform Elgar at the Royal Albert Hall. It was my first time at such an event and we enjoyed it immensely, so much so that we are looking to go to a Vivaldi Evening in October at the same venue. Sunday was a lie-in but I did manage to meet up with some friends at a local cafe for breakfast on the CS, followed by an afternoon in the Legion. A really relaxing, work-free weekend for a change.

Went for a spot of camping/hill walking in the Brecon Beacons. Pitched my tent early on Friday afternoon and chilled out with mugs of tea and a book. Spent the evening chatting to fellow walkers planning to complete the inaugural 'Mountain-Trial-Challenge' walk with me on the Saturday. The route was a planned 30 mile hike over the central beacons with a start time designed to force a night walk over the final stretch of open marshland, just to add a bit more misery to the ordeal.
Managed to complete the route which, according to those with satnavs, was 36 miles in 13 hours, placing me in the top 25% Did fall into a fair selection of bogs and had to scramble over marshland with no clue of where I was in the pitch dark, but lived to type the tale. ;D Finished the course and was supping on cider by 11pm feeling chuffed with myself.
Had a bit of a lie-in on Sunday (deserved!) broke camp and headed to my mother-in-laws for Sunday lunch. Ate for England! Home, kit cleaned, dried and put away. A soak in the bath followed by mindless telly, a bottle of red and a bag of malteasers wrapped up a cracking weekend.
Live long, live well, live happy

Jen has been on a jolly in Crete - she says she has been working hard...

So have had the two boys for the week and running in circles to keep up.  Sat however we went to the Sleeping Giant Festival at the Ancient Briton Pub near Dan Yr Orgof (spelling Roger) and what a wonderful afternoon it was.  Mind the price on the gate was 50% higher than stated on the website - mind £3 rather than £2 for a days entertainment is not bad, and the boys were free.  Wished I was camping / not driving as they had a good selection of ales on, but there was food and folk, story telling and demonstrations of people pretending to be knights and archers etc - interesting take on the Battle of Shrewsbury.  Lots of stuff for the boys to do too.  Then the parade around behind Owain Glyndwr and a rather pretty wench.

Second year we have been and next year intend to camp over for the weekend - starts Friday night finished Sun afternoon.

Sunday spent fighting the garden, firewood and boys

Motorbikes - what the ****** are they?

Hi all, On Saturday, Pat & I took our 15month old grandson and our other daughters Whippet
to the beach at Gronant (North Wales) for play in the sand dunes, surprisingly the tide was in, so it was his first splash in the sea, with the dog running around like a wild thing.....a lovely afternoon.
Sunday, we set off on the DR800S and went over to the Stinkwheels Classic Bike Show near Loughborough, which was very well attended, then up to Grantham and then back across the Peak District. I decided to do the Cat & Fiddle road for a change and as usual was littered with dozy car drivers, cyclists and sports bikes, most were overtaken quite easily and made good progress until after taking a short cut past Tegs Nose and dropping into the 30mph at Macclesfield, a Police motorcycle came up behind us at speed, slowing to my speed, and then blue flashing lights and siren. I stopped and he asked me why I thought he had stopped me, I replied....well it can't be for speeding....he replied that from the top of the hill he had seen two white helmets and a tin box overtaking everything in sight and assumed I was speeding and had to"ride like the wind"to catch me.....I assured him I wasn't and was just making good progress as it says in the good book(Police Roadcraft) . He was promoting Road Safety, and just doing his job, of which I don't object and he seemed like a nice bloke as well and we departed on good terms.....another nice day out.

I know its bad practice, but I thought "Bullox !" and didnt make way for them as they cut me up or tried to force me into the hedge.  It would hurt Them more than Me !

Worked saturday as Agency work in leicster. Sunday I cooked a proper sunday dinner and made the kids attend, charlotte brought her boyfriend to make up the party, then a long walk with the dog and the family by the canal, had a brief sight of a kingfisher, only the 3rd one I have ever seen, made my day. An hour blackberry picking, then back home. Unfortunately working an extra night shift down in leicster so had to leave home at 6.30pm.
my weekend was monday but it rained all day and nothing much got done. God what a boring life I live always 60hrs a week if not more. I wish I wasn't so broke, but what the hell I have health a good marriage and a home("O" and also motorbikes). so much more than many other people. Onward ever onward.
