Weekend debrief
« on: June 22, 2008, 04:43:24 PM »
Weekend working away, started ok, couple of pints on the friday then lessons all day before a pub quiz and a couple of (too many!) pints and a pub quiz on sat night.
Sunday dawned bright and *early*  :o was feeling a little headachy and dry but started drinking water and prepping for a fitness test decided to skip the standard fried breakfast(bad plan). Eight miles as fast as I can walk (faster actually) carring only 13kg, I should be able to do this....
First four were ok, keeping hydrated by using the camelback, it's never comfortable but I'm keeping up with no real problems.
Next couple are getting pretty uncumfortable but I'm ok, last couple are baaad, I'm feeling every one of my 39 years and I'm too hot, struggling to stay with the group, the last half mile is hideous, falling back then having to jog to catch up, really suffering and getting pins and needles in my arms and cramp in my jaw and neck.
Get back to the start/finish point and as the warm down starts I'm feeling crap and woozy, spotted by someone so the medics get me away to the side and I get rehydration fluid etc. feeling better after a while so hobble away and get cleaned up, and start throwing up ::)
Have spent the afternoon in bed (no longer throwing up  :) )
Now feeling marginally better but still with a resting heart rate of about 118 bpm  :o :-\
I guess I'll have to go see a doc if it doesn't drop by morning  :( damn I feel old!

Hopefully next weekend will go better  ;D

A bunch of us went to the Farmyard Party at Helmsley in N.Yorks.I am not really an avid rally goer but I do enjoy this one.We have had all types of weather, sunny, cold, very wet and a gale to ride home in.My only complaint would be about the brain donor who started his bike up at 5.30 am this morning, let it run for about five minutes, revved it up a few times them switched it off.Why do people do that?

Aye Smudge,

Look after yoursel', all this rigour doesn't sound good.

Missed a local run today, but a casualty arrived at our door tonight for tea and sympathy. Third 'off' in a week :o

First, crashed the paraglider when the secondary chute failed! :o
Second, when the contents of a tractors hydraulic system were laid around a series of bends just up from my house.
Third, encountered gravel and flooding on a narrow bridge in the Ochils. Front end washed out, mounted the kerb, then found a drainage ditch. Bike one way, rider t'other. Bruised ribs, shoulder and old war wounds severely aggravated. He left with 15 miles to go afore a hot tub soak, with ibuprofen and cocodomol to ease the pain.

Been working away all week and spent the whole time catching up on 'jobs' around the house and garden. Boring MotoGP and Toseland getting over excited in the first bend ???

Sorry I didn't see you last weekend at the Bob Mac Brian#88, good racing but expensive Duke singles going pop in big ways kept us busy on both days. Piccies to follow. I see the wee 'Tattie' is up for sale, what's the replacement? :-X

Weather has been foul today, lashing rain, windy bits and general s**te! ??? Woodburner on and a wee nippy sweety afore kip. The sun should have his hat on tomorrow. Good health to you all.

Keep boppin' Bill.

Had grandkids all weekend......as #1 soninlaw was running the west highland way race, with daughter and #1 son up there supporting him.....he managed 20 hours and a bit.....a good result and put him 16th out of 130 (one better than last year, and an hour and a half quicker)

grandkids were great fun to have......so a good weekend all round

Hello peeps, sorry for the absence, been working hard the last few weeks.

On Friday I accompanied my mate Andy to the Welsh Cider and Perry Society annual dinner. His wife was away so he asked me to come along and then told everyone I was his date  :o

It was a great evening, spent enjoying a five course meal with a different cider or perry between each course. The we returned to Andy's farmhouse and drank some more. Saturday morning was a trial, but Andy kindly welded up the cracked tube on my sidecar bike. Being a bit of an old hand at teh welding game he just got stuck in, ignoring wiring, plastics and the petrol tank in close proximity. Despite his hangover he did a sterling job and I was as pleased as punch. After I left his farm I headed off to visit Jethro at the bike dealership where he keeps his hammers.

Saturday eveing was subdued as I had to work on Sunday. However, on Sunday evening we had supper with some friends and I sloped off to have a few beers with the bikers in my local.

Needless to say, I was a bit bushed this morning.

The sidecar bike feels immeasurably better for not having a virtual hinge in the middle. Lately I have been trying to keep the fuel costs down by riding more sensibly. By doing such things as slow accelerating, coasting down hills and keeping the overall speed down I got another 20 miles out of a tankful  :o

Went down to Peterborough to take the XT for its first service, lovely day and nice and warm. Cost £25 for oils and filter. Then over the see Mart the ?????? nr Birmingham for a cuppa, catch up on things then up to Buxton to meet up with some other XT owners. The meet had been advertised on their web site and only a few had met before but what a great mad bunch. The bikes were predominantly XT660Z'ds which are the supermotards which had lots of lovely mods and one XTX which is the trailie version. The chap that came on it had just popped over from Denmark for the meet! despite the weather! But then if you check out the pics on the XT660 web site you will see some of the pics of his journey from Denmark to South Africa :o :o :o :o :o and I got to shake his hand. What a great bloke and soooooooo many stories, a real stawart.
Far too much booze as usual and very wet weather but a great time. Had to get back home for a wedding reception on the Saturday evening at the Gas club and yes as the name suggests it was er lets say a bit rough, when I arrived the groom  had someone up against the wall by the scruff of his neck, but hey more drinking to music ensued. Had to get the bike out on Sunday for more smiles, still haven't cleaned it, but then again thats for some other time. Just clocked 1000 miles in a week! ;D
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

Didn't do a great deal of anything really. Tennis match got called off on Saturday and Wifey was working a late shift. Sunday spent packing shopping for punters in Tescos trying to raise money for the tennis club then evening watching a diabolical game of footie. heyho, at least it's the annual next weekend ;D
