If you are a fan then the passing of Humphrey Lyttleton is a tragedy. If you don't know what all the fuss is about then it's too late for you to find out how funny he was.

'I'm sorry I haven't a clue' was the best of British humour and ran for 40 years on Radio 4. It featured an imginary points scorer (Samantha) about whom Humph would say the most shocking things:
"Samantha is hurrying off after the show to meet a new boyfriend for a meal. He is a keen cook who likes using unusual cuts of meat in drinks-based sauces. Tonight, Samantha tells me, she is looking forward to a bit of tongue in cider"
The show also featured a game that wasn't a game (Mornington Crescent) and the fantastic Uxbridge English dictionary, where the panellists gave new meanings for words:
'Pallisade' - what the queen drinks
Even in his 80s Humph was doing things like turning up playing trumpet on Radiohead's album Kid A.
I'm really going to miss him
