Weekend debrief
« on: February 25, 2008, 08:00:54 AM »
Ye Gods....what a cr@p weekend......after spending most evenings over the last fortnight and a considerable amount of dosh fettling the 2 track bikes in preparation for a track day on sunday, the great day arrived, sunny and mild, up in plenty of time, round to collect #1 Son, who announces that he can't find his car keys, and his leathers, helmet etc are locked in!...frantic searching finally located where #1 sons #1 wife had tidied them up.....still, arrive at snetterton by 10 to 8, so time to unload set up car on roller start bikes and get sound check done (mandatory at all tracks now apparently)....sign on, and get rider briefing....so far so good.....with our session called we get togged up and son gets in car to start my bike up (which will then tick over ok, while i start his)...i get in car (in all my gear, including helmet) get his bike started...and the then starts to ride up over the edge of the roller, I slam my foot on the break and push the auto lever onto neutral....what actually happened is... I slam my foot on the break AND the accellerator and push the auto lever through the gate onto reverse......car leaps off the rollers launches backwards at a rate of knots, drivers door which is open slams into front of track bike throwing son and bike across paddock, simultaneously reversing into trailer, and dumping my bike onto the deck (I'd left it leaning against the front of the car)......what a bluddy mess!! sons track bike is rendered useless as fuel coupling on tank is snapped, and r/h footpeg and lever broken as is the clipon....my bike is bent but usable....the volvo, the door of which was forced right open hard against the front wing is in need of a new door, extensive repair work to the door pillar, and repairs to the rear bumper......#1 son has a right leg blue from knee to toes and was sorely pi55ed off with me (understandable) I feel a complete wan*er...    i did manage half a dozen sessions, but not much enjoyment to be had.

don't try this at home!!

Ooooh, jeezuz steve!  No joy there then...  That sounds pretty horiffic, and like it could have been much worse...  Now, I wont say "You were lucky", but the damage could have been more serious to machines, and at least #1 Son is still (just about) speaking to you...

I mean, thats like a fairly large RTA: 2 bikes damaged, car damaged in 2 places and 1 man down.

Sorry to hear that matey, more hassle I reckon you probably dont need...  ???

That is a bugger - and also causes me problems, trying to tell the wife that trackdays are safe.

Hope son mends quickly and the metal bends back too.

Sorry to read all this Steve, but I suppose it really could have been a lot worse. The good thing is that one day, in the future and in a pub (probably) you will both be laughing about your own "Mad Sunday".
As the other Bill says:

Keep boppin', Bill.

My weekend was not as eventful but good, towbar fitted to my new old banger Nissan Sunny, contacted a farmer in Ashford Kent ands its OK for me to leave my car and trailer there again as I last did in 1999 when I went to Switzerland on The Norton. This avoids me having to go along the M25 etc on The Norton, its more than capable of covering the distance but the speed on the Motorway is a bit to high for long term riding on The Norton .On sunday I went and saw Pat who let me have the panniers he made for Dolly these fit The Norton panniers frames very well.Thank you Pat.Magneto off The Norton should be back soon after some repair has been done to it.It would always start easely from cold but due to a condensor failing hot starting was always a problem.
End of April should see me in Belguim at The John Bull Rally run by the BSA owners club.

Commiserations Steve, could happen to anyone and it's crap.
But as has been said, damn good to hear the only injuries were bruising. Metal is metal but people are more important!
Hope you get it all sorted ok and have some track days that are as good as that one was bad to make up for it!

Bloody hell Steve! Glad to hear that no serious injury was sustained.

Amazing how one little piece of inattention can lead to all sorts of drama.

SO true GC

#1 son is fine.....joked about it tonight......said he thought it was just an accident.....until i drove forward to run over him again...

I would agree with you Bullet......but i'm tempted to make up a set of powered rollers....either a small four stroke engine or 24 volt lorry starter motor....anyone got any experience with these
or one for sale even?

Glad everyone is going to be OK. It never seems like it at the time, but the material stuff just gets fixed in the end.

Dare I say it all happened because there was a volvo near to some bikes? They have a mind of their own, you know...

Glad to hear you are OK.
