Go on larf and then larfffffff again
« on: January 29, 2008, 11:31:46 PM »
I do not knwo why but from time to time in the winter the skin on the ends of my fingers starts to split - sometimes it gets so bad they bleed.  Forgot a smallish one was opening up on index finger and getting No1 sons school lunch ready for tomorrow I plunged my hand into the chilli jar.   Jeeeeeezsssssssssssshhhhhhh brine vinegar and chili all in the cut (mind I have got chili juice on my ummhummm having been cutting up birdseye chilis and forgetting to scrub hands before going to the loo)

Finished laughing yet - good.  Well the best way to deal with splits on the fingers is to superglue them together - the splits not the fingers... split successfully glues, rememberd that I have one on a toe too - first that - so run superglue into cut and pinch together.  Mmmmmm some must have got on the otherside of toe or on finger as I now had my hand glued to my foot, and Jen is away.. lol

Problem solved and I now have all hands and feet unattached except at wrists and ankles

I found this while browsing the internet a couple of days ago. Don't know if it will help. Mart

"I had two forms of eczema for years; 1) cracks in the tips of my fingers and thumbs in the winters and 2) occasional severe itching on the bottoms of my feet. I found relief by applying Head & Shoulders dandruff shampoo to the affected areas. The active ingredient is 1% pyrithione zinc (same as in several expensive OTC eczema treatments). Suggested use; apply 2x per day for several minutes and wash off. Continue for up to 4 weeks, or for one week after symptoms subside, whichever is less (can reduce uses to 1x per day after symptoms subside, if desired). My symptoms were gone in just two days. Afterwards, repeat only if/when symptoms return. I found this tip in a chat room, forget where. From other web readings I think 1) This may be effective in up to 80%+ cases and 2) side effects are negligable. Not sure why this works but pyrithione zinc has anti-fungus and anti-mold properties, which is how it stops dandruff. Hope this helps. - Vernon, St. Louis"

Thanks Mart.

Bastian has a little pot in his lunch box, usually he has a couple of green chillis - in brine type ones, and a few olives.  Of late he has had a few red sweet chillies too.  Now No2 has started to become a chilli and olive monster too - along with squid lol

Oh well, No1 never gets asked to share his lunch box.

I get the same symptoms from time to time. I might give the Head & Shoulders tip a try. If nothing else it'll bring up the hair on the back of my hands a treat.....Owooooooooo!!!!!

Its right, I always superglue ripped fingernails back together.

There again I have also been known to change tyres using KY jelly.

Handy tip about H&S though.

We must be getting old to share our ailments mind.

Naa just spent a lot of time climbing on grit and granite - ripps th4e hands to shreds, and a good application of superglue and/or newskin helps.  It is the same stuff as they use in hospitals to glue wounds together - mind theirs comes in nicer pots all sterile etc.  I think a pot of SG is as useful in a first aid kit as steristrips or the like - mind the hosp will not thank you for gluing the victims together.. lol  so only for yourself?  Now we have a paramedic or two on here who will be loading their flamethrowers as we read?

Great stuff super glue, best attempt I've done is accidently letting it run out of a cut above the eye. God did I larff  trying to get the patients eye opened.

Super glue won't work unless there is some dampness as it needs H2O to make it set. Hence if it sits on top of the skin and you put your sweaty digits on to it your now stuck to the skin.
You usually do this stupid act as a way of testing if it is "set yet" NOT that I would know this of course.

Know that one - is it set.. nope but now ai hVe a bit of X welded to my finger.

Used some "Industrial" superglue once - came with a spray bottle for water.

Have seen someone use the same to glue a broken clutch lever together - was still OK some months later. (On a Guzzi if it matters)

Thats what SG was invented for, right, sticking soldiers back together.

I once opened a tube holding the lid in my mouth so i could use my hand to hold what i was sticking together and when i put the lid back i missed and touched my teeth, which was fine until i touched my teeth with my tongue.

i was lucky it didnt take too long to wear off as i wasnt looking forward to A&E.
