LOL, you're right, I would give it go on someone else's pride and joy
I used to mountain bike and do a bit of bicycle trials and I realised that I don't have that magic quantity, despite years of practise I still wasn't as good at most stunts as the guys I rode with... although in one case that's no surprise as he was a world class cycle trials rider.
What I did have, imho, was a much better attitude to this stuff than some. I practised all of these moves at ground level or on grass, etc. before moving on to ride on the dangerous stuff. That way I knew that if I bunny hopped over a rail with a 5 foot drop then I would get it right every time. Some of my mates would attempt the same trick from scratch and sometimes get it right, but sometimes get it horrendously wrong, a real case of bravery over sense.
You see the same thing in lots of those YouTube stunt clips where JohnnyBikeGod attempts a stoppie or wheelie, only to see his £5,000 sportsbike bouncing down the road. It never seems to occur to them that the blokes who make it look easy spent years on tough little scrambles bikes getting it wrong first.
