They are related to sunflowers and grow tall - all through the summer they catch the breeze and then you eat them and all the wind comes out...

Love em mind - have a load in the garden

Aye Rog,

Once planted, then never lost. Perhaps with you being nearer the loons, a Jerusalem artichoke soup garage meet might be interesting! ::)

If you have the 'knobbly' variety I can send you a few smooth ones which are much easier to prepare and have a different flavour. I swap some tubers every year with a man from smallholding families on the Gower.

Should keep the wind turbinesgoing for a few more years.

My regards, Bill.

Yup mine are quite knobbly - and pale white, have seen purple ones about are they yours?  Smooth and Purple?

I love them for casseroles when the Vicar comes to tea (or the like) thery do not know they are there but next day I know where they are - great taste too mind.

Have you tried the "Chinese Artichokes" look a little like a JA but are smaller and I suppose look like a large grub, supposed to be good but not tried them.

Small holder on the Gower?  Not far from me then. - well 20 miles

Aye Rog,

Mine have wee purple edges on the growing shoot bud scale edges. Never tried the 'Chinese' jobs as we have the big ones, but may give them a go this coming year.

Growing more 'Chinese' greens these days, under fleece. Good succesions, tasty and quick and easy in the wok.

Better get out here, as the thread has drifted! :-[

My regards, Bill.

what about another meet at the same place late spring early summer next year.

Sounds very good to me.

I asked the farmer if the bar was open on New Year's Eve and she said yes. She added that on New Years Day they do a plunge into the stream. Sounds like a (cold) laugh, but Mrs Onepot can't seem to be convinced that this is a good use of my time  ::)

Cheers
