Did anyone see BSB from Cadwell?

That accident on the mountain was horrendous... watching the bloke's leg flop the wrong way was awful. I'm not sure they should have shown the replay from a different angle, it was just nasty. The rider is Leon Camier and I've just read that he broke his femur and dislocated his knee.

Yes, I did see it and irt was horrible.

I agree with James Toseland, the Mountain section of Cadwell has no place on a modern short race circuit, it's very dangerous. Shane Byrne was very lucky to get away as lightly as he did when he crashed in the same place.

Yes It was dam good racing up until then. But it brings home the danger when you see an accident like that. I feel that modern racing bikes have outgrown these smaller circuits. Its a pity but a fact.

Bad weekend on Lincolnshire's roads though.  Mixing 30,000 plus spectators going to Cadwell with Joe Public and his brother trying to get to Skeggy ( 5 mile plus cues out of Horncastle..and then I turned off!) was bound to be a bad.  2 motorcyclists killed , 1 pedestrian killed in an accident involving a bike and 40 plus other accidents. I don't know the circumstances so I wouldn't comment but the local telly / radio have been having a field day.
Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!

That's bad, i didn't watch it, didn't know it was on....
but...
A couple of points, maybe 3...
They could always use the club circuit with the hairpin.....
Is it any more dangerous than, say philip island with its corkscrew..? and knockhill is very similar..and how about olivers mount?....and as for the Irish road racing....
do we end up with a lot of circuits like F1....flat and boring..? (rockingham comes to mind, and I seem to remember the bikers didn't like it)

I really hope Leon, and the other injured riders make a full recovery and get back racing quickly, but I think there should alway be a place for technical circuits

Yes, easy to miss as it was buried on ITV4.

You make an interesting point about using the club circuit. When undertaking tack days at Cadwell they always bypass the mountain and use the club circuit as they consider the mountain section to dangerous for any but the most experienced!

Incidentally the corkscrew is at Laguna Seca and is proably one of the most dangerous short circut corners in the world. Many of the top MotoGP riders have been campaining to get the US MotoGP moved from LS because of the cork screw. Make em all ride the TT I say then they will really understand 'dangerous'!

Put in perspective 25 years ago watching racers take on the challenge of the mountain at Cadwell it was every bit as dangerous despite the relative lack of performance. This was mostly due to very limited suspension and braking capability coupled with chassis technology well behind that of today.

I don't want to see racing sanitised either but neither do I want to see highly skilled and brave racers unnecessarily exposed to risk and consequently hurt.

I would place good money on the mountain section being altered in the next year or so.

The winner of the race(s) was Johnathan Rea, who was catching monstrous air on the mountain. I accept that we don't want to sanitise our race circuits to the point of boredom, but the geometry of a racing motorcycle is vastly different to that of a crosser or supermoto. Add this to the seating position and width of handlebars and I can see why the mountain section may need remodelling in the near future.

In the days when bikes merely pulled lurid wheelies or low jumps over it, it was fine, but Rea was hurtling over the bloody thing.

Aye,

Young Mr Ray is an ex-motocrosser and well used to taking the air.

I have not seen the clip or the reverse angle replay. Were they shown for gratuitous effect and to increase the 'Gore' factor ad nauseum? Or inadvertantly, then given a 'public health' warning?

Hopefully whatever mods are implemented they only apply to those classes that want them and don't mess up the circuit like Edwina's and the chicane in Gerrards at Mallory.

May those injured, make speedy recoveries.

My regards, Bill.

I stand corrected on the location of the corkscrew...thanks (geography not my strong point!)
It's a fabulous bit of circuit....I remember seeing colin edwards absolutely demolishing the opposition through there on his honda in wsb a few years ago

With regard to Cadwell track days, I must have done 20 or so there, and only on 3 occasions has the club circuit been used, rest of the time it's been on the full course... and I love it...but of course I'm going half the speed (or less!) than proper racers.

I Wonder what Andy230 thinks of it ?.....he's our 'proper racer'...

Just got this weeks MCN, great pic of Rea airborne....yet to find a mention of the accident!!

I was under the impression that the coverage I was watching was live, therefore the producers may not have been exercising the usual level of control over content.

Yes, Rea is an ex-dirt rider, but surely even he would concede that the mountain is getting a bit gnarly for a road bike? His level of skill was amply demonstrated by his fantastic riding (and flying!), but others (including Shakey Byrne) were less fortunate.

Bloody good watching Rea fly the Blade though :-)

I'm surprised if MCN made no mention of the accident because it looked to be a season finisher for the poor lad.

From the MCN website:
Leon Camier is to have surgery today on the left femur he broke in yesterday’s horror crash at Cadwell Park in the second British Superbike race.

The rising star was spat off his Honda Fireblade as he crested the Mountain and sustained serious leg injuries which left fans and TV viewers reeling.

It appeared as he slid along the ground his left heel dug in and spun the leg, dislocating and fracturing his knee and snapping the thigh bone.

He was airlifted from the track, and today surgeons at Lincoln hospital eased fears of significant long-term injuries by saying there are no serious complications with any of the injuries Leon Camier sustained.

The dislocated left knee was manipulated back into place by British Superbike medical staff at the circuit, which could prove significant in terms of how long he is out with ligament damage minimised by the swift action.

Leon Camier also complained of back pains after the crash but these were attributed to muscle bruising rather than any serious spinal injury.

An announcement has been made on Leon Camier's official web-site today (Tuesday) saying he also sustained a fractured pelvis.

And look at these...

Blimey!

Ha!  Ask Mike Edwards!   ::)

Anyway Steve, you'd probably be quicker than me round there. Personally I quite like cadwell, but over the mountain I tend to only just lift the front as the front "tops out" and the back *does* break traction and maybe lift a little but I've never ridden a "proper racer", only heavy old slow road bikes.  Hardly in the same league.  Even then tho, I'm climbing over the front of the bike to avoid repeats of John Goode Jnr and subsequent destruction of machine, lid, leathers and broken bones!

Are Superbikes at Cadwell getting to the same stage as the big Proddie bikes at the Island? (I remember seeing film of the CBR1000s going up Bray, barely in a straight line -scary).

Didn't the IOM race organisers restrict the proddie class to 750 after that?

You Tube:

A clip of the action, NOT the crash (although about three people have posted film of it if you want to view it).
