TPS on Suzuki DZR400
« on: March 02, 2026, 04:53:08 PM »
I'm struggling a bit with the throttle position sensor on my DRZ-400 (Keihin carb). I needed to remove it as I'm fitting a calble operated choke plunger. However, I can't see how the throttle spindle can actually rotate the sensor as both have a female type connector. Am I missing something? I'm sure nothing fell out. In any case, would it matter if the sensor was disconnected? I'm assuming that if the CPU doesn't see it there will be some sort of default value.

I'm told that all it does is alter the ignition advance slightly when the throttle is closed and it's idling. It can't affect the mixture as there's no electrical connection other than the TPS

Thanks in advance.

This is the throttle spindle and the sensor:

Sorry Ian,

Bamboozled?

Never poked around in something that modern.

Looks to me like the outer prongs, on the carb, slot into the outer/slots holes in the tps. The bevel edges on the prongs would suggest this as well.

I've discovered that there's a bit missing which is a small plastic component with tongues on both sides to engage in the slots. Must have been left out by a PO as I dismantled it with care and am sure there wasn't one in there. As it happens, they were in stock at the place I ordered the cable operated choke from so have ordered one. I'm not actually convinced the choke and TPS can actually cohabit the very limited space that's there so have made a blanking cap to use if necessary. I am told by one authority I don't need the TPS and by another that I do.......
