Gus the guerrilla.

Been on holiday for two weeks and been riding Bruce the scram before that, so Gus the guerrilla hasn't had a run for four weekends. Managed to get out on Gus this morning for a 70 mile run around the lower Yorkshire dales. Was out for 7.15 so had the roads mostly to myself.

The Royal Enfield Guerrilla is a cracking, fun bike. Totally different to the scram 411. A relatively short stroke engine it needs to rev more than the scram, but it revs freely and makes decent torque after 4000 rpm. Below 3000 rpm it is very chattery to ride and won't accept throttle. But the bike is all about fun at legal speeds. The throttle response above 3000 rpm is immediate and urgent. It's not a bike well suited to sauntering about. It likes to go.

Steering and handling after jumping off the scram feel quicker and a bit more precise. The bike in general feels like a lively little pup. Suspension feels firm at town speeds but is well judged as you get up to back road blast speeds. Copes well with the toads typically found in the dales. Rear brake lack lustre but the front brake is keen and strong.

The air box noise is a stand out feature of the riding experience. Always rumbling in the background but takes on a snarl when you give it some throttle.

It's a bike that's easy to manage physically, but I wouldn't say it's a doddle to ride with respect to the engine. You can't just chug around without thinking too much. So in that respect, it's an engaging bike. Quirks equate to character. It grows on you the more times you ride it. It represents excellent value for money and I count myself lucky to have two very different thumpers to ride. Also have an electric frankenscoot, but that's another story. 😁🤟

Enjoy the ride dudes.

As the Doors (I think) said in Riders on the Storm..."my brain is squirming like a toad". Freudian slip maybe.............?

I can echo everything Andrew says about the Guerrilla.

It reminds me of my KTM690 single but without as much manic attitude and the Enfield fuels so much better. I couldn't commute on my KTM as the transmission  was so snatchy. A real nightmare in the urban sprawl rush  hour. And the reliability wasn't great either...mine was a low mileage 3 year old and something in the fuel pump failed blocking the supply....and then the  radiator sprung a leak due to corrosion. Nevertheless like Ducatis : light,  fragile but immense fun when they are going well. It would wheelie off the throttle too- not that I'm that kind of rider........

I don't actually think the Guerrilla's any worse at lower revs than most of the singles I've owned - you just have to ride around the snatchy nature of the beast . While it doesn't actually pull like a train when you give it some- as Andrew says it's characterful, picks up speed quickly  and there's lots of fun to be had  at  (mostly) around the legal limit. I do ride it slowly from time to time and it copes well provided you use the gearbox but it's one of those bikes that rewards largish throttle openings. Can't fault the handling or braking yet either but mine's only just about coming up to being carefully run in at 1250 miles. Great value for money too like the 650 RE I also own. I can only hope it's as reliable as my 650 has been in the 6 + years I've owned it.

Two reviews with more useful information in than most bike mags and any Youtube rubbish. Thanks gents for interesting glimpses of the actual bike.

Cheers Ian. Had a cracking, full day in the saddle yesterday on the scram 411. A full day less the obligatory stops for tea, buns and chats. 😃. A thoroughly  enjoyable day. The weather obliged. We got out early, all little roads, the white roads on the map. Only 200 miles, but on those roads and a very steady canter it seemed more. 😎 Fulfilling.

Andrew, I'm interested in whether you've done any mods to your bike ?

I'm thinking of fitting a DNA air filter and adapter although they seem very pricy for what they are!

I've already fitted plastic extenders to the front mudguard and rear hugger as I don't like cleaning muck off after every ride!

The scram has a cheap delkevic end can with the battle out. Works well and sounds great.

No mods at all Gus. Probably will buy a zard end can over the winter, but tbh the airbox keeps you entertained.

That's it.....So far😁. I'm pretty sure I'll mod the scram over time but nothing pencilled in as yet.

Thanks Andrew.

I'm quite enjoying having a relatively quiet exhaust on my Guerrilla at the moment although I do appreciate the benefits of some noise.

At least I don't feel guilty as I try to carefully pass the inevitable horse and rider down some of the country lanes.

I'm going to put some crash bungs on if only to mitigate against any damage that will be caused if I drop the thing pushing it around the garage / garden/ workshop.
