Slightly off topic but a number of petrol / diesel engined cars have very low air intakes (I think Citroen / Peugeot are like that). We used to live by a ford, and when it was running a bit high the usual clowns would try to whizz through it and drown their engines - probably hydrauliced. Oh how we all laughed.....

 Aye Steve,

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just returned from a 120 mile canter through the Highlands on the Mono, with Kat on the Bros. Autumnul, would be the polite term, parky is another. "Leg lag" or thermals required from now on.

And , "Yes!" nearly taken out by a 'Power Ranger' overtaking around the outside on a lefthand bend, with me already indicating that I was going to make an overtaking move on three touring cyclists, after the corner!  ::) Thankfully, I checked my mirror and shoulder. Said 'PR' then performed a crossed up stoppy, when he realised that he couldn't pass the cyclists!  :o  Managed to get the back end down and then swerve past the cyclists on the wrong side of the road.  >:( >:( >:(  Three very nervous cyclists!  :(  I then followed round a long downhill off camber righthand sweeper, only to see 'PR's' rear let go on a dip in the road and then grip again, before disappearing from view. Maybe good racetrack ability, but sh!te road manners!  >:( >:( >:(

Off now to adjust the knicker elastic and give it a lube. K2 goes well and have over 1,500Km added to the clock. ;D

Will send an image via email that will make you creak a bit.  ;D ;D ;D

As for the thread, I suspect that in 4x4 SUV conditions (SUV? Does it = Stupid, Unobservant, Vandal?) where the LandRover models not already broken down,  ::) and blocked the road ahead, trying to "ford" water more than axle deep could result in some interesting short circuits!  ;)

I understand from several recovery vehicle friends that if a Tesla stops, then you have to drag the vehicle onto the pick-up as only the Tesla dealer has the ability to unlock the transmission/wheels!  ::) So, you might need a new set of tyres as well.  ;)

Toodle pip, Bill

Good health, Bill

I was on the Island for the first electric TT and entered into a conversation with the Marshalls about safety procedures for the electric bikes.

They pointed to the kit they'd been issued:

1.  Pair of Heavy Duty Marigold gloves.
2.  Wooden broom handle.

Apparently they had been told to put the gloves on and from a distance use the broom handle to hit one of the two isolating switches on each bike - big red buttons on 'tank' and rear seat hump - if there was a crash, before attempting to touch.
Note to Self: Shiney side goes UP.

There's nowt better than a good pair of industrial Marigolds!  :-\

What you choose to use them for is another matter and probably beyond the manufacturer's 'Safety Statement!  :o ;)

My regards, Bill

Went for a test ride today on the Zero "Sports tourer" today at Street Bike in Halesowen. I was impressed , but then again.... It was a dry day so no chance of getting electrocuted 😲?. No danger of me affording one either....a cool £20k for the model I rode. If you have any reservations about electric bikes.... Just go ride one...see for yourself.

It's not the riding experience I have reservations about, it's having to spend 3 or 4 hours recharging every couple of hundred miles. Until they can get that down to at least 15 mins, but preferably 5, then sorry, I'm just not interested...

Apparently there are more charging stations than petrol stations in the UK now, according to Street bike.
Range of Zero bikes approximately 200 miles. My petrol bikes have a range of approximately 150 miles before I need to refill. Recharge time can be less than an hour if the power charger is used. Cost to charge from flat....approx £1.75.
Whilst I went out on my test ride, I was out for approximately 45 minutes in a variety of riding conditions (through town, up and down hills, along fast dual carriageway). Upon return the bikes had "gained"  4 miles from the "regen" effect.
I'm not trying to sell anything, I just thought people would be interested in how motorcycles are developing. Apparently they aren't.  🙄

Yes defo  interested Ian, I’d never say “never” I understand when Pete says he’s just not interested and for me personally the lack of engine noise would (I think) put me off as it’s a big part of my riding experience is the noise. Although having never ridden one I refuse to dismiss the idea completely. Plus wether we like them or not they are going to be the future and having a boy who’s  very quickly approaching 16 I’ve started to take a bit more interest in the electric vehicle thing. Bikes and cars.
Thanks for posting your findings, really enjoyed reading your thoughts👍
Cheers, Michael

Thats just it though isn't it? My blue Jawa cost me £1200 quid and yet will take me up to 300 miles before I need to refuel, and then that refuelling only takes a couple of minutes. I do get that the Zero bikes are getting closer to that ideal, but I could buy about 15 of my Jawas for the cost of one of them. And then we come to the environmental argument. I can keep the Jawa running almost indefinitely for pips, whereas the electric bike will probably be scrap in about 8 years when it needs new batteries and the cost of replacement is more than the bike is worth. Apparently, at the moment there's no way to cleanly dispose of the used batteries or recycle them either.

Having said all that, I'd love to take a Zero out for a test ride!  ;D
