I bought the front down pipes 2-1 and they fitted a treat.

Not fitted one sorry, but I had OSPipes make some stainless front pipes and fitted a pair of universal trumpet silencers, fitted great, looked great and sounded superb.

I have just finished putting together an XBR and used the BW 2:1 down pipes I had acquired - they fit really well. The issue is the silencer as the BW one I acquired is LOUD and just would never pass the MOT as there is no real noise suppression. I put on a new 'universal' silencer that I got from fleabay for £43 which did the job to pass MOT (with advisory) even though the tester described it as "fruity". I swapped it to another cheap one (£35) which has some noise suppression but it is still a tad loud - a short journey is OK - it looks good and the engine breaths better! BW weren't too helpful when asked if one of their other legal silencers would be a good fit as they dwelled on the connection diameters of the pipe to silencer. I'm pondering if a CX500 pattern silencer might do a reasonable job...
Hope this helps.
Regards, Clive.

It should pass the MOT with the noisy silencer as it is not part of the test. Will fail if the system has a leak though.

This is an area that will undoubtedly give much debate and I understood that was the case too. It will always, of course, be down to the individual MOT tester to interpret the MOT guidelines for a rejection, that for motorcycles is:
"A silencer that is in such a condition or is of such a type that the noise emitted is clearly in excess of that which would be produced by a similar machine fitted with a standard silencer in average condition"

Over here .... IOM ..... it would most definitely fail on noise. EG, a Harley with Screaming Eagle pipes WILL fail due to noise.

Hey Mandie Manxie

I am very glad to hear that SOMEONE will fail a HD with mad pipes. Drives me mad that it's a dealer expectation almost that owners will fit S E pipes so the bikes "run properly". Never seen a cop stop a HD, tho same noise on a sportsbike quite rightly gets a pull, sometimes.

Don't have a problem with a bit of 'fruit' aurally, used to have T140 with peashooters, but don't take the p!ss, we'll all get banned.

If you wanna go loud, go old so it's legal!
