Army Surplus

So what gear do people use. I swear by army surplus for quality, price, and durability. Gloves, boots, waterproofs etc
Just bought this pair of hardly used Altbergs off ebay for £39 inc post. Waterproof, and ideal for on and off the bike.

I have been wearing Altbergs for years, usually the Field and Fell boots.Being a tightwad all my pairs have come from ebay although I do look for decent pairs rather than the cheapest ones that I can get.Not sure about the Armys move to brown boots though, perhaps I should stock up on black ones.

Army surplus and new Altberg boots now I can afford them - Para Boots or Jackboots before that.

The Pro Boot is coming around in bigger numbers now though, good for bikes due to the insulation.

Still wearing them, but now I have another pair as well (from work).

Even used it was four times what I used to spend on para boots.

And probably four times better.

Yea, everyone used to knock about in the good old german para boots, and the grey german moleskin trousers. never see them anymore. The army are also using Haix brown leather boots too, which look to be slightly cheaper than the Altbergs, but comparable quality. For comfort, the best of the lot are the Meindl desert boots, theyre like wearing slippers. Im onto my second pair, and my sister even got a pair for a trip to India, and shes a fashion victim  ;)

Anchor Supplies in Ripley / Nottingham still had the para boots last time I was in a couple of years ago. I used to really like them but found them too bulky with the V-Strom I had recently.

I did try the Alt-Berg version several years ago but they were even bulkier and very stiff. Beautifully made though and the factory is very interesting.

I still wear para boots and so does my mate at work. You can tell when either of us is walking down a corridor because we both make the same squeak!
