Air cooled engine for mz skorpion
« on: October 23, 2013, 07:36:52 PM »
Hi all I have a mz skorpion with the Yamaha 660 water cooled engine. I also have a spare frame and want to build a special using an air cooled engine. Could anyone suggest a possible candidate of 500 cc plus which would fit with minimal effort ie engine brackets and chain line. Thanks in advance alan

The later electric start XT600/SRX600 (monoshock) engines will bolt straight in and have the correct chain alignment.
Alternatively an air cooled XT600 top end on an Muz/SZR/XTZ660 bottom end would also work.

There was some early prototype pictures of a Skorpion with air cooled engine and short seat/tail unit. Is that what your copying? Eric

What could have been... much prettier that it turned out.  I guess they always are...

Re. the extremely pretty (?french) you posted in error, if you look closely there is not really a lot of skorpion there.

Forks- dont think so
tank and seat obviously custom, but its also not a production frame.  A copy-cat, looks a lot like an MZ item, but (I have been told) isn't.
swingarm maybe...
wheels look similar, but why would you?!  Rear brake looks stock...
clocks, oil tank are one-offs

Love it tho, extremely pretty!

An airkool'd skorp is a great idea tho.  Keep us posted,

andy

The Original prototype put together by Seymour Powell did use the Aircooled Rotax engine.
The frame was stuck together using Aircraft technology....as in some sort of glue I believe.

As an aside, I also relally liked the TDM based Kobra 850.  I wonder if Dave Pearce also did the frame for that...?

Strangely enough I had one of 'Dave Pearces' bikes, it was a TIGCRAFT Dominator with a honda dominater 650 single in it. It was bike no12 but his first road prototype with the frame no T0001 and was featured in 'Bike' mag in 94' against a Hyde Hornet.I owned it for quite a few years but i must say that the skorpion sport was the better bike!! Aye,

'Tigcraft's' reply #4 on this thread appears to have a BSM 'Futura' exhaust system installed, similar to the one on 'Sally'.

Skorp with an air-cooled motor sounds good, but I have other fish to fry at present!  ;)

My regards, Bill.

Aye Jethro,
Very tasty! Bit of fried fish, especially with some smoked paprika and chilli flakes in the batter, to taste. Mushy peas are also de rigour, with malt vinegar and fresh coarse ground black pepper.  ;D

Fish being 'fried' are a brace of Italian singles. Motoliner required for both after I had cast one away in 1978 and ridden it squint ever since until 2000, when it came off the road with a slack piston and worn big end cage. Tracking out by 10mm. T'other was bought at the 'right price', with unknown history, but documents and mostly there. Tracking out by 15mm. Both now trued. Will post further in 'Projects', time and memory permitting.

Now tinned sardines on toast (Tesco's chilli ones in olive oil), with a mug of cocoa afore sleep.

Goodnight, Bill.
