anyone owned/riden an SZR660 Yanaha

Has anyone on the site riden or owned an Yamaha SZR 660? One for sale local to me but I know nothing about them other than the engine (XY660) is used in several road frames and is reported to be bulet proof.

Hi Onelung
Not ridden/owned one myself but they are supposed to be, if you can live with the styling, a good road bike. Engine is the same as in my '97 XTZ660 and if that's anything to go by it should be reliable though not fast. What it looses in speed it is supposed to make up for in the handling department being light with snazzy suspension. I've always though the looks of the bike let it down; as if the front and back were designed by two separate teams and then joined togother - not really ugly just a bit weird. That said, just like the SRX, they didn't sell in vast numbers and are relatively uncommon so if you can get it for a reasonable price, and it's in fairly decent order, it should be a good buy.

Cheers

Nice bikes, goes and handles very well, and tends to flatter your riding ability. Very ugly but as someone pointed out to me you cant see that when your riding it. I'm 5'8" and found it a bit cramped.
If its cheap then its worth a look. when it came down to it I decided that I preferred my SRX, which is slower but more character (whatever that is !)

I've got two at the minute but I've had six or seven over the last ten years or so :) I did the whole bigger, better, faster, more thing and found myself returning to SZRs time and again, I love them! The styling is completely Marmite- love it or hate it (most hate it!)- but the handling is brilliant. They don't enjoy being stood for very long to the first thing to do is drain the tank and clean the carbs, even after a few days' standing my road bike takes a couple of prods to start it.
