2007 supermono series
« on: February 14, 2007, 12:46:15 PM »
hello all,

I took this from the supermono forum.  A bit of info about what they're doing, and to try to drum up some support.

If anyone can help at all re sponsorship or promotion of the class, then I'm sure they'd be really greatful (see below).  Interest in singles in always going to be a bit hit-and-miss, but these guys are really working at it.  I would hope that this will not be the last year of the British Supermono Association.

Remember this is THE ONLY PROTOTYPE CLASS SAVE MOTO GP.  All other classes are production based.  (So admittedly, a 20 year old SRX isn't going to cut it), but the engineering (on other bikes!) is stunning, innovative, and employs materials, techniques, and designs banned in other classes.  Mike's blog shows the level, and there are plenty of other guys with sites (get to them from www.supermono.co.uk)

The paddock is great fun, with plenty of really big names to rub shoulders with.  And for those of us trying our hand with road-based kit and no cash, I think we deserve a bit of support!

Dates are looking like:

R1 Brands 14 April
R2+3 Snetterton 5/6 May
R4+5 Pembrey 16/17 June
R6 Donnington 12 August
R7 Mallory 9th Sept
R8+9 Cadwell 6/7 Oct

Pasted mail follows, cheers for now guys.

So, the season approaches. We have a 9 round series on a variety of different circuits and still a potential 10th round in July, although I wouldn't hold your breath!

2007 is going to be more expensive and the figures we have for our races - in the format we have become used to - are based on 30 riders on the grid. It is therefore essential that everyone make every effort to get to all 9 rounds. If people miss rounds, the shortfall will have to come from either sponsorship or the BSA coffers! Either way, if this happens all year long then the association is likely to be insolvent by the end of the season.

For this reason, the committee feel that the best use of our resources this year are for: 1. Racing and 2. Promotion of the class.

So there will be no prize money this season. We have managed to secure season coverage from BSN for free!
I have already asked everyone to enter for Performance Bikes "Specials" competition, and would be grateful if you could all do your bit on this?

In addition, I would like everyone to see if you can find sponsors, even just one, who might like to sponsor a race or a round. If you have any interest, make contact with Peds please.

On a good note, Dave Pearce of Tigcraft has offered to supply winner's garlands for the season, and Tekmotive to fund the trophies.

I really believe this may be a "make or break" season for the supermonos. I think it is essential that we have as big a turnout as possible at every round, and that we all try and encourage as many new faces into the class as we can. We must all do our best to promote the class wherever and whenever possible. We all know how good the racing is, and how much fun and support there is in the paddock, but we are one of the best kept secrets in club racing. We really need to change this, and we can, but we all need to work at it.

Thanks! And Happy Valentine's Day!!

Andrew

Would love to get along - will try the Pembrey round.  We are 1 1/2 miles off the M4 going past Port Talbot - so about 1 hour from Penbrey as I drive... So probably less for others.  Not got alot here apart from tea and coffee but if any of you guys are heading to South West Wales adn you need to borrow some spanners, have a bath, fill the Thermos etc - PLEASE feel free to ask - I can always say no.
