Bike only running on choke
« on: October 14, 2011, 01:32:57 PM »

Put my bike back together this morning (SRX400) after sealing the tank.

While it was off I went over the carb cleaning out all jets etc but making sure not to change anything apart from the float level which I raised as the bike would die if I ran for to loneg. Waiting a few mins and it would run again.

Now it will start on choke but dies as soon as I open the throttle.

Any ideas? I'm meant to be travelling ~200 miles today on it so getting desperate.

Cheers

Tim

Sounds like fuel starvation from somewhere...the  choke covering the underlying problem. Sure the top notch SRX crew will be along shortly to help.
Good luck, hope you find a fix soon.

Well you were pretty much spot on.

The problem is in the fuel line from the tank. One is ok the other not so good. I put it on Prime thinking it would feed from both lines but it turns out that prime works off one line and not the other. And that line was the duff one  ::)

I took it out for a thrash and it does not starve now, it runs ruff but that might be the choke as I cannot seem to find rubber insert that does not swell. I put a Nitrile oring in as thats petrol safe but it might be too small so choke fuel is leaking by.
