My racing hero (of the week)
« on: January 16, 2011, 01:36:50 PM »
This is Giovanni Bussei:

He rides this XR1200 on the road and even takes it scrambling in the company of his mates (including Valentino Rossi and Marco Simoncelli). Don't let the beard, woolly sweater and pisspot lid fool you, here's what he does on a work day:

He's one of the few knee-down supermoto riders and is blindingly fast.

Despite his ramshackle off-duty appearance he is related to the Agnelli family, the founders of Fiat, but he is famed for taking cold water showers in the paddock and then sleeping in his car, whereas his less affluent colleagues head for a hotel.

Hurrah for yet another fantastically eccentric Italian bike racer.

I knew that bike wasn't just chrome and leather to keep dentists and Bad Boy accountants entertained. I test rode one before I bought the Bonneville. I was reaching for the cheque book when the salesman opened his mouth. Still, it isn't British you know.

Good luck to the guy. Definately makes a change from the racers who go to the track by helicopter and consider road bikes too dangerous.

Mmmm!  Brilliant stuff.  I could never really be described as a Harley man, but I quite like the look of them!
