WilderBeast and his poor rubber rear end!!
« on: September 25, 2010, 08:59:14 PM »
8200 miles and the cush-drive has gone completely. Nice bit of slack rotation in the direction of chain travel and lo, nice bit of wobbly movement backwards & forwards too. Hmm, sprocket carrier bearing has gone too. £34 and 4 rubber bits, one bearing and a new seal later I am now set for a Sunday afternoon bike session.

You should register with the XT660.com site as nearly everyone else has had the same problem and packed out the cush drive rubbers with old innertube. I have done mine as well and the bike has only done 2500 miles! ;D
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

If it makes you feel any better, with 18,000miles on my XT-Z I'm on my 3rd cush drive and it's looking ropey now as well.

20K on mt 09 XTZ now and still on the same cush drive with the inner tube mod from XT660.com Fitted some army tyres for off roading today and noticed that by the time the tyres are worn out i think the cush drive rubbers will have to be replaced.

Looks like the the cush drive had already been packed out with inner tube rubber and that had failed too. Slight mistake in original posting as the WilderBeast has an enormous 9440 miles on the clock so that would explain the failed components.

Spent a nice hour & half this afternoon fitting all the bits. Hardest part was getting the wheel back in as everything was tight in the rubber department. Eek.

The sprocket carrier bearing was completely knackered to the extent it had shot its contents past its casing seals all over the inside of the dust seal.

Now, when I put the bike into gear the speedo doesn't temporarily register 2mph due to the slop in the transmission!!! Hmm, so that is not a built in feature, it is in fact a warning sign that your rubbers are failing!

Photos posted of me rubber bits and bearing for inspection by the masses.
