Club Stands at shows
« on: July 08, 2009, 10:19:33 PM »
The recent jaunt to Uttoxeter highlighted one thing that really needs resolving. Every time we have to lug a club stand to a show we need a van or (as in the case of Uttoxeter) an estate car. I have made enquiries about professional display materials and I have found that we can buy two pull-up banner stands for about £200, printed with an image of our own design.

We can also get vinyl banners printed, hemmed and eyeleted for £30 per linear metre (max width 700mm). We have one of these already and I think one or two more will mean that we can always fill up the rear of our stand area.

Combine these with a lightweight folding table or two then I can get the club stand to a show using my sidecar (possibly a solo). Also we could, I think, afford to courier the whole lot to anyone doing a show for the club.

This is the way to go, if only because when the club attends shows it provides a good free beano for the TC members who put their bikes on the stand and a nice social event where we get to meet other TC members. This brings me on to another subject. When we get a club stand at a show the organisers are happy to send out free tickets to those showing their bikes. Due to a bit of a ******* up on my part a number of the members showing bikes on our stand at Uttoxeter had already bought tickets so, unusually, there were spare tickets available, These did end up getting used, but the ticket's late arrival at my house (in the week before the show) meant that we weren't able to tie up more TC show visitors with free tickets.

Just bear in mind that if you can put your bike on our club stand for a show then you are entitled to free tickets, even if you can only manage one day. Unfortunately we rarely get more than we need for the stand staff, but if we do then next time I will again offer them out on a first come first served basis. As for last weekend's good eggs, I will talk to our treasurer to see if we can contribute towards your petrol costs.

Boyd and I talked at the the show and we agreed that yes the newsletter is a tough item to produce. This needs addressing but for now I want YOUR stories, articles, news, photos and/or adverts. send them to:
one dot pot at ntlworld dot com

You'll be pleased to know that the show gave me a new interest in club work, something that 10 years of chairmanship had started to erode of late. 10 years? blimey  ::)

One other thing, lots of visitors mention seeing the website and remarked on how good it is. Keep up the good work Steve H, lots of people like what you do.

The topic had moved from "club stands" to "what is the thumperclub" the original comments was likely to be lost so I have split it

If we are going to have stands at shows then these seem like a good solution. Unfortunately once equipment is bought there is always the issue over storage and transportation which envitably falls to a few individuals. (Steve D and the marquee being a good example.)
The fact that these are relatively small works in their favour.
Questions I would have are:
  • Whos going to do the design
  • How durable are they bearing in mind they are probabaly going to be stored in a garage full of XBR bits  ;D
  • What are the dimensions of the pull-up banners
  • Are two going to be enough
  • Are they suitable for use outside
  • Do they come with the stand or is that extra
  • Are they paper or fabric ?
  • Is £100 a roll good value

  • Whos going to do the design
Me, with final approval from the forum members
  • How durable are they bearing in mind they are probabaly going to be stored in a garage full of XBR bits  ;D
Stored in my office actually

  • What are the dimensions of the pull-up banners
800mm x 1800mm
  • Are two going to be enough
Yes, in conjunction with the printed banners I propose having made

  • Are they suitable for use outside
Banners yes, pull-up banners no.

  • Do they come with the stand or is that extra
stand included, in fact it's integral

  • Are they paper or fabric ?
a bit of both I think - will check

  • Is £100 a roll good value
It's about right (the price includes VAT). One firm said £200 each!
[/list]

I've also found a cheap large aluminium table for £35.

I have used some of these pull up displays in the past.  Have to be a little careful as they are not indistructable, but they do withstand a Rog and a bunch  of Under Secs who "should not be trusted to sit on a toilet the right way round" beating them up time after time.  The banner bit can become tired and jaded and we need to be careful about what is on it (I would vote for the Logo on a green background) as they are OK as a one off but a bugger if you want to change something or they look dated etc.

They do look good and give a good impression, so much better than hand written stuff unles it is VERY good.

Our gardening club have taken on some banners and pull up devices and they get a lot more interest that our string and paper displays.  Mind the Wellies full of soil and planted up get more - just like the bikes on display do.

Might I suggest some material in the club green would be good for tying all together with and should be cheap enough and robust.
