Thumper trials - the safest sport in the world?

I do hope that's not Sammy Miller  :D

I always fancied a go at pre-65 trials, but I'm guessing unless you're prepared to shell out for all the kit these days then you don't stand a chance. The bikes may all look like 1950s Brit iron, but I understand that underneath is all sorts of stuff like Spanish fork internals, etc.

Given the proximity of his family heirlooms to the top yoke it might be - Trials, Bog Snorkeling & Knacker Nursing :o

Marshaled at some pre-65 trials in Mid-Wales with Steffan a few years back; and you are right it's not a cheap sport. Many of the bikes and riders we saw were from ex-factory works teams. A lot of money had been spent not only acquiring the bikes but having them properly set-up and serviced. They old boys certainly seemed to know what they were doing and were very competitive. There were also quite a few very large camper vans, presumably bought with all the retirement lumpsums!

Nothing wrong with the riding there, you all missed the point that he is using the bike as a platform to stop his gear getting muddy as he looks for his contact lens he dropped there earlier

Cannot find it now but there was a lovely web article about making a trial bike from a CG125. But it was very pretty - much like a Tiger Cub trials for the new age...

Sure someone does it somewhere but how about a set of rules that say your bike has to be CG based etc etc and a £250 claiming rule...?
