Onepot, you said earlier that "Pat" had used an NX front wheel on his Cafe Racer.  I am unsure who Pat is and how did he manage to get the speedo drive geared for the XBR speedo?  I am asking because I have picked up an NX to donate its engine for my project.

Billy.

'Tis I he speaks of! If you use the speedo drive that comes with the dommie wheel it sits on the opposite side to the XBR. This means there is no casting on the slider to prevent it from spinning around with the wheel, but I for one don't worry about this. My reasoning is, I've clamped it firmly in place and it 'butts' against the slider anyway. Also, if anything internally should jam, I'd prefer it to wrench the drive off the cable rather than stop the wheel dead.
As for driving the speedo around in the right direction.....It does. The internal gearing spin the cable the right way to drive the XBR clock. well it did when i simulated it with my drill (can't use the bike cos it's got no engine!)
Spindle's the same diameter front and back and once you sort out the off-set of the rim, the disc on the front line up with the caliper mounted normally up front. As for the rear caliper mounts, I'm still working on this. There is plenty of room between wheel & swingarm, I've just haven't got round to making a template. The Dommie caliper sits above the swingarm and slides along a mini track when adjusting the chain, but the XBR swingarm is tubular so the caliper will have to mount underneath ant utilise a tie bar.
Best of luck with yours, the rate I'm going with mine, you'll be telling me how to finish! ;D
