My MuZ has had some improvements? made over the last few days. Firstly I started with a 5 minute fix of a broken wire somewhere near the ign switch. It cut out when moved lock to lock. As I needed the bike to go on a run, I was just going to nip in there and rejion it up. Yeah, Right!
After the front fairing came off, it was necessary to remove the LHS fairing for extra room. Then off came the instrument cluster followed by the handlebars and top yoke. The ignition switch is mounted with wierd cant get them undone bolts so all work has to be done with the yoke off. To get at the core of the problem the switch needed to be pulled apart, as a wire had dislodged itself from within. This wire was a dead wire which went nowhere anyway so it was back to square 1. with a bit of tugging and bending it was found the red wire was breaking contact under stretching so I needed to replace it. What ? Ho? while Ive got it apart, I may as well replce the black and blue wires as they also have seen a couple of repairs over the years (I only had the bike for 2 days when these wires were repaired as the assembler didn't allow space for the turning motion). After soldering on replacements and putting the switch back together again I noticed I had mixed the blue and the red up. HMMM some poor bugger in the future is going to get seriously confused... Or should I say... hotwire that ya b*****d!!!!
HINT: while I had the switch apart, I drilled 3 2.5mm holes around the housing and looped the wires through these. If a wire gets tugged it will protect the solder joint and save having to solder it again.. The switch is not designed to have too much heat on it.

Before reassembling the bike I added a QH spotlight mounted under the fairing and on the lower stem so now I can see around corners too, as well as a LED sidelight. OH and a set of air horns. all invisible under the fairing. I also mounted a voltmeter on the tiny dash under the screen.

Next job will be lights in the panniers and topbox.

I must say tho, I am not too impressed with the original MuZ wiring, I think that MZ should look at how the Japs wire a bike! Talking about wiring... I also once owned an OSSA, they used modified cobwebs for wiring.

G'day Kurt,
I did the same thing myself once except is was adjustment to the handlebars and resulted in a full strip powdercoat and new bearing rebuild of the running gear. Not had any trouble with the wiring except that it has knackered two tachos. Unless someone puts one in my hand it can go to buggery, it ain't getting another one.

So did you get out on the run or were you left on shank's ponies?

The ignition switch is mounted with wierd cant get them undone bolts so all work has to be done with the yoke off.

My ignition switch bolts kept loosening off, so I welded studs to the head of each bolt, wound them out and loctited some capheads in place of them.
