astounded...
« on: May 18, 2008, 12:05:15 PM »
hi all,

I went out to see a mate in Stoke Newington (N. London) on the DR with my missus on friday night.  I though, maybe I'll "just have the one" and so drive back.

Predictably, a bunch of scottish lads having not seen each other for a while (and a beerophile girlfriend) had a big night so we stayed at his place.  I did think "hope the bike's ok", but it was locked, and not much I can do anyway...

Got up in the morning, crept out, back to hte bike.  Yay!  Still there,  a bonus.

Reluctant to start, but it did go.  died at the end of the road.  Hmmm, somethings not right.

Correct!  Fuel pissing out!

The bastards had taken the pipe off the carb (easy enough done), and pinched about tenner's worth of fuel!!!!  I was amazed, but on reflection, a few of them a night lets you run your (untaxed, uninsured) car for nothing....

Not too bothered really (Enough fuel left to get to a petrol station), and was thinking that at least they didn't take the bike.  Ha!  They left the bike but stole the fuel!!  That really is the perfect bike for london!

Only later did I realise how grateful I was they didn't just toss a match at it.  Its been swimming in petrol, big stain on the road underneath it, and the engine cases are all discoloured, so its been very wet....  It would have given a few minutes entertainment for the toerags.....

Just thought I'd share it.

cheers

andy,

its a lot more common than you think, especially in london.

its usually a bunch of useless workshy youngsters (hard to describe without using colourful language) who want to fill up the nicked scooter that they'll tear about on all night.

after all how far does £10 of petrol go in a car?

At £1.17 a litre and rising, I can see more petrol being nicked from bikes.  >:(

I'm an evil minded bu55er.....but wouldn't it be wonderful if, in the normal tank, you had some highly volatile corrosive mixture, whilst hidden away somewhere a tank with 5L of petrol.....and when the scumbags used the stuff they either blew their bluddy car up or the tank, fuel lines and carbs all rotted away.....

Do you think it would be an offence to do that??

I know that it's an offence to set your car/bike up with an electric fence energiser, such that when the traffic warden picks up the windscreen wiper to stuff a ticket on your windscreen he gets a belt.....'cos a farmer round here got done for it.......bu55er i'd love to have seen it though!

It's a nice idea but it'd be a lot of effort and only work once. The following night there's be a pile of smouldering junk where your bike used to be.

and odds on they would spill some on your bike whilst performing said nicking and you would be a victim of your own scheme
