Looks like I'm on the casual hunt for a complete BMW 800/850 airhead motor then  :o

I'll think you'll find that its 750/800/900 or 1000  ::)

The 850 is and oil head  :P
We all know that !

Go for post '81 800.Allegedly a nicer motor than the thou and unleaded of course.

And we all know manufacturers and modifiers so anywhere between about 750 and 850 *real* cc is probably possible  :P

But yeah yeah, I'm not a boxer spotter  ;) I'm told the 1000 breaks transmissions and the 650(?) has no more guts than the ural/dneiper type... so apparently the 800 is the one to have... however I suspect the trick will be finding a cheap one  ???

A mate of mine has a Dneiper with a 800cc BMW engine which has been very reliable but he has had a lot of problems firstly with the clutch and then with the gearbox (that is the Dneiper gearbox).We went on it last year to a BSA rally in Holland no problems it would cruise at 70mph if you want more info please contact me as I have another mate who knows a hell of a lot about Dneipers etc.

Sounds just the job Bruce, I don't have your email tho... could you drop me a mail? My first question for now, I've possible got the option of either an MT9/10 box or an MT11 box, allowing I'll have to replace the bearings with proper ones anyway, is one type stronger than the other? I have a memory I was told MT11...  ???

Yes ! I was with Tim at The Dragon Rally when we stopped by Diggers outfit and had a good chat.
Thats where Tim went into bit about how to mate the two together properly with extra lugs,spigots and dowls,to line the clutch up with the G/box.

In about two weeks I've got to move a mountain of gear for someone, including a Dnepr chassis with a Subaru engine  :o

I'll take some piccies when I do it.

Cheers
