Spares for SRX/XBR's
« on: January 07, 2008, 09:58:56 PM »
What is the current state on availability of spares parts for SRX & XBR's ??

What I mean is I've got myself hooked on my SRX 400 and am thinking about selling my other bike (Kawasaki EL250) and getting another Thumper, either another SRX or an XBR. But they would be my primary transport for both work and play so if one is off the road I'd need it fixed fairly quickly and with little fuss. I've had a couple of bits to do on the 400 but nothing the local Yamaha dealer couldn't get or do for me.

So for long(ish) term transport which is still likely to have parts available in say 3 years time ?

XBR spares are fine for now because the engine is much the same as used in the Dominator. However some items have started to be discontinued, such as the choke cable. It's not the end of the world though as pattern items are available.

Not sure about SRX's, but most XBR bits are available from either David Silver spares(Genuine) or WEmoto (Good patterns), also loads of bits on Ebay. The only hard bits are rear wheels that haven't got oval drums and full exhaust systems ( dave silver did have genuine ones but I understand he's now sold out). WEmoto are probably good for most SRX consumables as well.  Certainly XBR's are generally pretty reliable transport and fairly easy on chain's, tyres etc. If you get an XBR make sure the back brake doesn't pulse under braking and that the front down pipes are in reasonable nick ( you can always stick a pattern silencer on if the downpipes are OK).

I take it from the picture your SRX is a mono. As you probabaly know, as it was never imported spares are not as available as for official imports. That said most of the consumable parts like discs, pads are shared with other more more common bikes so its not a major problem. For spares the twinshock SRX is a better prospect in than the mono, Fowlers etc seem to stock most parts. Jap import twinshock SRX's are largely the same as the official import so shouldnt cause too many headaches.

Yeah if it is to be another SRX then it will be a twinshock. Not that i've had any problems with the bits I needed for my 400 mono its just been easier to get them through a Yamaha dealer, however as you'll all know that does come at a price.

Anyway guys thanks for answering my question and I've taken on board all your tips, seems theres a few more years left in these bikes yet  :) :) :)
