Calling Jethro!!
« on: December 13, 2007, 09:02:17 PM »
Hello Chief

Dont suppose you have access to Yamaha part No's do you??

I need some crankcase studs for the race motor.

Its a XTZ bottom end, with an aircooled XT600 top end.  Its a 2KF
head and 3AJ barrel.  There are some pics on a blog, if you are in any interested:

http://team-thumper.blogspot.com

The XTZ barrel BOLTS down onto the cases.  The XT barrel is tied down by
nuts onto studs into the cases.  Over the years, Yamaha seem to have used
3 or 4 lengths of studs.

I need new studs!  And I need part numbers...  Cos I can get them at a slightly more reasonable price from Kedo in germany.  For the 3AJ model (I know this cos I measured the length of the 3AJ studs)- 41mm protrudes above the surface of the cases.  Other availaible lengths are 31 and 36mm ("visible" portion)

I know by trial and error that the parts I need are not

90116-10087  (64mm total length; 36mm "visible" when in cases)

or

90116-10263  (59mm total length; 31mm visible when fitted to cases)

The parts I need are the studs in the crankcases which hold down the
barrel on cam-chain side of the 3AJ motor.  Could you advise on a part
number at all??

Would be most grateful, and maybe even buy you a beer....

(ahem!  ok, well, maybe thats pushing it....!)

But I'd be grateful anyway...

Hi Andy,
Unfortunately I dont have access to Yamaha part numbers.
I did have limited access but none since August when I changed jobs.
Now work in a brand new Honda dealership, only Honda stuff and that is limited to what Honda has put online.
No old stuff as nobody uses books or fiche anymore.

Sorry.....still can buy me a beer though... ;D

Im popping down to a mates bike shop on saturday. If the place isn't too busy and I'm not getting in the way I'll trawl through his fiches and see if i can find your part numbers.

Hello Dave,

That would be great cheers.  Print off the post and take it with you?  Its a bit garbled I know, but may be useful.

Really appreciate the offer, cheers

Right Andy...

I popped down to Jonesies bike shop today and had a quick squint at their fiches. I had a look at the parts lists for the 2KF and the 3AJ. According to the diagrams both have barrells which are bolted to the casing on the camchain side and have studs on t'other side. Does that sound right? Part numbers for bolts and studs are as follows...

For 3AJ:
Bolts - 91316-06035
Studs - 90116-10378

For 2KF:
Bolts - 90110-06162
Studs - 90116-10378

I'm afraid I wasn't able to find any measurements. Hope this helps though.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for all this!

The manual was a lot of use, cheers.  Although its not a 3AJ, i think it has the parts no I need.

If you look at p24 (of 72) of this document (Crankcase) you can see the parts I am talking about.  On this page, its item no's 19 and 21.

Part nos 90116-10506 and 90116-10263 respectively.

You can see that in the SRX (and other XT's) it uses (items 15 and 17)

http://www.srx600.f2s.com/srx600/plist/partslist.php?image=images/plst_d10.jpg&texturl=list/plst_t10.htm&heading=Parts List - Crankcase

which are part nos 90116-10087 and 90116-10263

I need 2x ...087  and from your manual 2x  90116-10506.

I am willing to bet that part no  90116-10506 is the one I need.

my god this is getting really dry!!!!

Cheers for now.  I think this is the parrts no that you will turn up (if you can still be bothered investigating!!)

all the best,

andy

Hi Andy
Yup, you're right. I had a 'proper' look today. On the 3AJ the studs on the camchain side are indeed 90116-10506. T'other side is 90116-10263. Sorry about yesterdays ineptitude.

While I'm at it, I came across this link...
www.onlinemicrofiche.com

...Loads of bikes on there. Its a US site so some of the part numbers are different but I've been reliably informed (by the bloke that gave me the wrong part numbers yesterday) that most of them are right! Its handy for diagrams anyway.

Thanks all!!  An incredibly boring, but necessary discussion!!   :D

Dave, thanks for running around, and for the links and manuals.

Ken, Steve's srx600.net is a very useful site, but sadly not the right stud lengths.

I'll get them ordered.     cheers for now
