I've been rather naughty...
« on: July 18, 2007, 10:39:40 PM »
I got a new toy today and its not a thumper. I've still got my XBR so you don't have to excommunicate me just yet, but I now have a 1980 CB900f. Its horrible and it weighs a ton but it was very cheap. I need a set of carbs for it so if anyone has any in the back of the shed going cheap, I'd appreciate it if you'd chuck them my way.

I also picked up my next CD175 project today. Its a mess. I was thinking of doing it up for my Dad but I reckon the only thing its fit for is having a bit of fun with. I can feel a mini cafe racer coming on.

Had a minor flood yesterday. It rained for about an hour but I've never seen rain like it. There was a stream coming down my drive and when I opened my garage door it was a good 5" deep inside. Our road is on a slight hill so all the water from the gardens was flowing downhill into the side wall of my garage and p**sing through. Lovely.as fast as I was swooshing it out, it was filling up again.

So thats me. My Missus isn't hugely interested in my latest news so i had to tell you chaps instead.
Cheers,

Dave B

Dave are you coming up to Dent? Bad news this weather - are you in Yorkshire?

CD sounds like it needs the Rog Project Cafe Racer approach. The old CB was a beast but could be made to look good and go quick, mate of mine had one years ago that was well breathed on and ferkin fast, he threw a shed load of money at it then swapped it for a Katana to go drag racing!

Hi Mav.
I'm in North Wales, been having some bizarre localised weather. It seems to change every half hour. I was hoping to get to Dent but as usual, lots of stuff got in the way and I'm not going to make it. I'm determined to escape for a few days at least once this summer if it kills me.

As for the new bikes, manky old Hondas seem to lurk in the back of sheds waiting for me to pass by. 'He looks like a sucker!' they say as I brush the cobwebs off my wallet. I never get to choose bikes, they choose me.

Cheers,
Dave B

Well it's not much fun weatherwise in Cheshire either but not so bad as it is for those the wrong side of t'Pennines. Know what you mean about bikes picking you, I've had a few LC related events where I thought the beast was too good to pass up only to still be throwing money and time at them months later - no regrets though and wish I still had a mint LC in the shed as they're worth a fair bit now, much more than £250 I paid for my first one!

RCV670Y - A wonderful Rd350LC that was stolen from my care 25 odd years ago - Mmmmmm would love another.
C612LVV - a wonderful RD500 that still resides in my shed - though has not run for a good 15+ years - do I see a pattern.

TJA273X - 1st of many LCs bought from a mate who used to ride it illegally and did so one too many times - the nugget. Looked like a dog but ran like a whippet. Spent a shed load on it but I think I got value for money, it never let me down unlike later 'bargains'. Sold for £500 3 years later to pay student debts.

Q569GCM - RZ250LC import, looked mint and always ran like a dog, dribbled from the cylinder heads like a rabid badger - I could take the heads and carbs off in my sleep in the end. Snapped a throttle cable miles from anywhere which led to me screwing the throttle stop screws all the way in and dribbling along at 5mph for an age.
