What's the wire in like?
My mum and dad's was installed into a USB port with an adapter the Virgin drill and cable stuffing merchants brought in their van. The result was slower than their old dial up. Ours was installed with a network type connection and is the third fastest connection I know.
The number of users is a big factor. Our old house was in a row of Victorian terraces where most of the locals could remember the houses going up, their lottery numbers and the bingo hall opening times, but not much else. Our broadband was the second fastest I've known.
The fastest is a guy I work with who's on a BT system and pays their top tarrif. Think that's something to do with the brand new exchange and BT offices being 100 yards away!
